What Breed of Horse Is This?

I am assuming that's directed at me . . . in that case, fair enough, but why not say so in the first instance?

Posting an image like this (rider sitting on cantle, horse unhappy, image of horse not particularly great) on a forum like this will undoubtedly invite negative comment . . . add someone saying "not my horse and not me" and I am afraid red flags go up.

I hope your "friend" sorts out a saddle that fits both her and her quite sweet little horse. As to breed, I have no idea, but also suspect some Welsh D in there somewhere (but am prepared to be proved wrong).

The horse doesn't look necessarily unhappy - it looks like many a horse does when hacking along aimlessly! As for the rider, maybe, for instance, the horse had spooked forwards in the second prior to the photo being snapped, leaving her behind? I just think it's very harsh to judge on one snapshot of something that really, in the grand scheme of things, is very minor anyway. There are much much worse photos out there - including those of very overweight riders on horses.

Which is precisely my point about posting the picture in the first place . . . very open to interpretation/criticism and it's not even her or her horse.

But perhaps that's more the fault of the posters who offered their interpretation/criticism, when it wasn't asked for in the thread title? Had the OP posted 'Please give criticism on the rider and horse'..then yes - warranted lol! If the picture posted was showing something which clearly had a very negative effect on horse welfare, then yes, again, warranted, but really, the rider is very lightweight in the pic, and she isn't socking it in the chops with the bit either - she looks very light handed - in fact, the image portrayed looks no different whatsoever than that you see every day at a riding school (well, coming to think of it - at most local shows too).

Oh come on - you know what this place is like! Post a picture of someone having an innocent sit bareback on their pony not wearing a hat with pony in a rope headcollar as part of an organized, professional photo shoot and you'll get the anti-bareback, anti-no hat, anti-parelli brigade finding all sorts of reasons to have a go ;).

The criticism aimed at the overall image of horse and rider has nothing to do with the weight of the rider (she has a lovely slim figure) and everything to do with the positioning/size of the saddle in conjunction with the positioning of the rider . . . yes, it's a moment in time . . . but it's a moment that doesn't look particularly harmonious.

Knowing what I know about HHO, it's not an image I would have posted here . . . but then I've been here long enough to know that ;).

Lastly, HHO has made me something of a cynic . . . if I see a (frankly) dodgy image posted by someone with little history of being here followed by "it's not me or my horse" with little or no explanation of why the image has been put up, I am (unjustifiably perhaps) suspicious.
