Oh not slagging the breed at all - just people who overfeed them, they don't get like that on their own and of course I prefer to see them lean. It's Sieger weekend if anyone wants to start on the slopey-backed cripples :p

Speaking for myself, I am used to seeing cavaliers which resemble the breed standard rather more closely :p

Which also means they do not have "buggy eyes" and are not overweight or struggling for breath :D

Unfortunately, I have seen a lot of cavs that have the buggy eyes. I think I must live in a dog breeding area as I see a lot of cavs, huskies, border terriers and beagles. Odd. Although the main street consists of only staffies being walked on massive harnesses by people who appear not to know how to buy the correct size of jeans.

Just looks to me like a youngish, rather leggy and just a little bit gorgeous Cavalier King Charles Spaniel in tip top condition. Mine's rather a leggy one (& she IS papered) & when she was younger she had a coat not too dissimilar to that one and there can be some variation with theirs coats I think anyway with some having beautiful, gorgeous silky fur and then some (ie mine!) having quite thick, coarse fur that makes her look a right scruff if she hasn't been clipped for a while (right now for example!).

It was sold as a King Charles Cavalier - pure bred but not papered! Just looks a bit long legged to me so I wondered.

ETS to say - no haircut - that's her coat.

I don't think you've been duped. Sometimes they look leggy when they're younger...and sometimes they just stay leggy. But it's rather cute.

And like Ostrich says, it's not the same as the King Charles spaniel which are buggy eyed and pushed in faces (struggling to breathe). It's also not overweight, and no it's not had a recent trim by the look of it...it's got a juvenile looking coat, or just lucky that it's still smooth if it's an older dog (or perhaps not neutered).

I get a couple of BEAUTIFUL natured bitches that come in and they are sooooo freakin overweight -- I keep begging the nice owner to diet them. One has wee short legs as it is, but her legs almost disappear under all that fat! And the other one is tall and largely built (she's the size of a cocker-- but weighs more than one currently too). It's heartbreaking. But people just don't get it.
