What breed/s in this dog??

prob more dogs are bred without any thought to line/registering/paperwork. just a quick few quid in the pocket :(
also there seems a fashion for bull-lurchers and this could be one?

Thats not a bull lurcher. They breed them to look like whippets/greys on steroids, but they are still leggy and quite streamlined.

I would say far too much bull to be a bull lurcher Cahill? I don't understand that particular fashion at all (although I hear that if you are a poacher they are good after deer?)

They like them for deer and foxes are they are fast but incredibly powerful. Not my cup of tea at all!

If you 'cut off his head' with your hand, he doesn't have that much bone...just a big noggin.

I actually think he looks mahoosive/much older than nine months.

Still way too much to be just a Staffy. Look at his paws, chest and how long he is. Even the most chunky Staffy isn't that big and definitely not that long.

Hmm... i'm no expert ( :D ) but he definitely has a big head for a staffy.

I'd be inclined to go for another bull breed?? Not sure it looks like a shar pei, lots of pups have wrinkles, maybe an American bulldog or pitbull?

Though i could be completely wrong but it looks like a staffy but a bit too big proportion wise... so i would guess a similar breed for a X (if it is one!)

Cute though :)

BYB dog probably bred from two parents described as staffies but not quite.
In a post above someone described having a dog sired by a decent staffie with a BYB type dam - while this goes on & people allow and support such breeding we will keep being flooded with poor puppies.

Thanks for the replies, interesting discussion.

Unfortunately I don't think we will know as the owner claims he is staff x bull mastiff...Not sure I believe that but he was very sweet and friendly :)

There was some discussion as to whether he was a pit bull type, but I think he is too young to establish this and missing a few of the key indicators.

Could definitely be Mastiff. He's got loads of growing to do. Crap breeders are crossing Staffies with things like Mastiffs and American Bulldogs now and trying to palm them off as quality, stocky Staffies :(

It's becoming harder and harder to find true to type ones thanks to the fashion of huge great big blue things.

It may be easier to distinguish if there are different breeds in the mix once he is an adult. There are definitely more "variations" of Staffies appearing all the time - more's the pity for the breed, as they are so often the dog of choice for the "'ard yoof" looking to impress his/her friends.

How sad. My grandchildren have the most delightful staffie bitch. I have to admit I was very biased but she has completely won me over as she is the perfect family dog, very trainable and well socialised and she adores the children (all six of them) however when I am out with the grandchildren with her, I get some very hard looks and other dog owners scuttle off in fear although she is the least aggressive dog I've ever known.

This is a cross. There is no such thing as a long legged Stafford/Irish etc etc. The Stafford is a small muscular dog with the bitch reaching 14" at the shoulder and the dog no more than 16". If they don't meet breed standard, then they are deemed to be a cross. Welfare have had to do this as it would seem anything remotely resembling this breed is deemed to be a SBT when it could be just about anything. There is also another sector whereby the DNA would probably show "pure" DNA, but the reality is that these dogs have been cheaply bred by back street breeders and they now start to move away from what these dogs should be. I have 2 (rescue) of these and while small dogs, they look quite different from my (again rescued) breed standard dog. If the dog in the photo is actually a bull mastiff X, I would STRONGLY advise that the owners keep quiet. I would also advise them to read the DDA (dangerous dogs act). The Pit Bull refereed to is a "type" based purely on measurements, so as an eg, a Stafford X Lab can easily fall foul as would likely measure up to the definitions. The law is full of holes and complete blameless dogs have been destroyed based purely on what they look like. Unfortunately, trying to find out how you can proactively protect your dog and ensure it is exempted has proven hard. No one would choose to go to court and risk losing their dog, yet I honestly can't find how you could be responsible and take steps to avoid falling foul of this idiotic law.

I'd say Staffie x mastiff. There are some surprisingly little mastiff types round here, I reckon some idiot locally is breeding indiscriminately.
