What Breed to Choose?

thanks for all your help guys, I think we will investigate the viszla and the GSP a bit closer. OH likes the viszla and I like the look of a GSP or a weimarener... typical! ;)

*beetles off to google!* :D

I think of the three Viszlas and Weimareners are the more tricky, with Weimareners being the most difficult/scatty. I could be wrong as I'm not much of a HPR person, but that's what I've been told before.

I know you said short coated, but I think wire coats are easier maintenance and shedding wise (although I could be wrong) in which case if you are looking at HPRs, there are also
Korthal Griffon http://www.korthalsgriffon.org.uk
Slovakian Rough Coated Pointers http://www.slovakianroughhairedpointerclub.org.uk/
and German Wire Pointers

and then there are also the English Pointers which are smooth.

I have no idea how suitable any of these are for your needs, but just some extra breeds to look at. :D

Interesting article and I find it 100% right. The more training/activities I do with Harley, the better his behaviour is. I don't work him, but he does obedience, ringcraft, doggy swimming (!! He loves it, it's his special treat!). The more I do with him the better he is! He will do agility when he's old enough. I know he's gonna love it!

Her comment about them pulling on the lead is one I've heard before. I have a friend with 2 GSPs and she said, "oh you don't get a GSP that doesn't pull on the lead". Wrong! Mine doesn't!

Her GSPs are gorgeous!

My GSP doesn't pull on the lead either. I agree with the more you do with them the better they are mine loves keeping busy and letting him think lots. Mine can jump the horse jumps better than the horses he would make a brilliant agility dog if I had ore time to take him to classes but atm we just do our own thing at home.

I somehow can't imagine her dogs pulling on the lead;)

Don't get me wrong I love Labs, and my family have always had them, but they just won't do the miles that OH in particular wants to do, and I don't think its quite fair on a dog to do more miles than it's 'designed' to do, hence the search for a more suitable breed. :D

My lab is from working stock and would do 10 miles and come back for more!!:D:D:D

In fact I'll lend him to you to see if you can wear the bugger out!!:D:D:D
