Suggestions required as to what breed to buy next. Currently we have 2 GSP's who are coming up to 10 early next year, so in their twilight years, although they haven't really slowed down much.

I am tending towards a mini wirehaired dachshund but my OH is concerned that it is too small. I am also keen on a Whippet but again, my OH isn't.

He has suggested a Manchester Terrier but I just don't really like the look of them.

So, over the years my family and myself have owned Yorkshire Terrier, Springer Spaniel, Great Dane, Rotti, Mini Schnauzer, Giant Schnauzer, Standard Schnauzer, Boxer and last but not least, West Highland Terrier. Of those, the Boxer was my 'special' dog but I'd still like to own a different breed.

So, suggest way if you please :)

I hope this doesn't sound as if I am criticising, but can I ask why you have had so many different breeds, and want a different one again. I know us GSD folk tend to be very loyal to our breed, but I know of many people with other breeds who feel the same.

Quirky, get a GSD, join the GSD Mafia, and you'll never want another breed again :D :p :)

I love Manchester Terriers!

What about a nice hairy lurcher - wire haired and a skinny dog, a perfect compromise for you and the OH?

Most of those are dogs my parent's have bought and I grew up with. My dogs, that I alone cared for were the boxer, westie (she was a rescue with life long issues) and now the GSP's.

I don't like to have the same breed as I would always compare them to their predecessor and they would never match up. Same with my horses, I've always gone for something different as I'd be looking for the unattainable, my first horse reincarnated.

CC - GSD's? I admit, they worry me slightly. I was bitten by one as a child and I have never really been that comfortable with them. I look after my neighbour's and she is a beautiful dog but it is always a relief to hand her back.
Lurcher? I know that covers a multitude but I always think of them as being quite big dogs, I *think* I'm looking for something smaller.

No worries, I understand they are not everyone's cup of tea :) you weirdo :p :D

There are lurchers of all shapes and sizes and like Carey says a nice Bedlington type would work.
I think TGM (correct me if I am wrong!) has a lovely Bearded Collie lurcher or similar who looks a nice size.

What about a wire Fox Terrier?

This is what you need:D

Bedlington/whippet x whippet:)

Border Terrier!!

Everyone needs one! I cannot imagine my life without at least one :)

Ditto this! Border every time! I have yet to own my own :o but I adore my grandparents wee dog, he is an absolute joker and is happy to go for day long hikes, or lie inside curled up by the fire all day, love it!

Nice size as well, not too tiny but still very game, and all the ones I've met have been non yappy like some terriers. :)

U have very similar taste to me, I have a Boxer and a GSP. I would struggle to pick a new breed as love both the characteristic of both of these breed. I also am a big spaniel fan.
