You can rescue puppies!

Just as some "always" promotes getting rescues, I "always" recommend getting from breeders, no matter which you choose, please try and make sure it is a responsible one.
Responsible breeders do their best to try and avoid that their puppies ends up in rescues and I think those breeders deserve support by people getting their new dogs from such breeders, just as well as rescues.

Did you feel that GSD was your sort of dog when you had your little bitch or was she to troubled by her problems to really reveal how it would be to live with a GSD? If you felt that you had found the right breed, then get a new GSD, if not look into Labradors or perhaps even other breeds, how about for example a Smooth Collie?

By the way, sometimes runt puppies are runts just by coincidence and sometimes they are runts because there is actually something wrong with them. If it because something is wrong, it sometimes can be picked up at the puppy vet check but that only tries to cover the evident faults, other faults are not always found.

Personally I love when they are puppies, just as I love it when they are older, I wouldn't want to miss out on either of those periods in my dogs lives. So good luck in your breed choice, from another one who doesn't want to miss out on the puppyhood time.

my pup was diagnosed with kidney failure at 11 weeks old. we had known her since she was born as we knew the breeder. my friend bought her litter brother and he was absolutley fine and is huge!! we loved having her and she was a absolute fantastic job which is why my mum wants another, i think im just a bit wary as we were so unlucky with her although i think thats what we will end up getting.

thankyou everyone for your replys

Even the most responsible breeders can only do their best and there is never any 100% guarantees when nature is involved. I understand that you can feel a little hesitant when you have loved and lost one so young but that is after all not the way it usually ends.

GSD.
You had a bad time with your last puppy, but there are things you can do to help and if you decide to go for another puppy please select from HD-clear parents and those proven to throw good hips.

Can you PM me the breeding of your poor puppy please, some breed people are trying to put together a list of dogs who may be juvenile renal dysplasia carriers.
Also the HD angle.

My dog was a runt (well a bloody massive one) and he has a lot of issues, despite being bred in the purple and with all possible health tests done on his parents. He has been neutered and his breeder has had his ear bent
