We used to have a fantastic little dog called Jess, who died of old age 9 years ago now.

I always believed her to be a Springer x Border Collie, due to her typical Border Collie colouring and long ears, but now think she was possibly a Cocker x BC.

This photo isn't the best as the flash reflected, but you get the gist from her head and size with son who was about 10 at the time :)

Can Cockers have BC colouring? She had feathery legs and tail, but was relatively thin coated, although it was reasonably long.

Looks like a black & white working springer spaniel.
I don't see cocker at all.
Change her colour to the more common liver and then see what she looks like :)

We used to have a working Springer, and while they were a similar size, George, the Springer, had a totally different coat. Jess also had perfect BC markings, can you get Springers with BC markings, as I have only seen predominately white with either black or liver markings.

Not that it really matters, but OH and I were saying she was the best dog ever and if we ever found another that looked like her we would be sorely tempted..... :D

ETA: I have just googled and found a Springers which are predominately black. Still not with the perfect BC markings, but they did look more like Jess than what I see as the typically marked Springers :)

Show springers tend to have the blanket colour over their back and bum. I'd say springer (have had four). Have a glance through my album: yours look like my Jakey, a working springer. :)
