I am constantly amused by people asking me what breed Stella the Boston Terrier is, despite the fact she is an American breed, living in America, that is top 20 in terms of popularity.

These, in order, are the crazy assumptions:

French Bulldog
Pug
Pitbull (seriously)
Boxer puppy
Jack Russell (

)

Anyone else experience the same thing?

Mine don't get mistaken for anything to be honest. Everyone knows that my collie is a collie; they all know that my little SpringerXcollie is a springer crossed with something and they generally presume it is collie even though this is not a common Xbreed over here; and everyone knows my Belgian Shepherd is some sort of Shepherd Dog although most people who comment on her are very aware that she isn't a German shepherd, they just don't know what type of shepherd she is.

My dogs always get confused for other breeds, but they are quite unusual so I have to forgive people. The most common assumption is that they are Labradoodles. Other guesses include poodle, water spaniel, spanish water dog and beddlington terrier.

They are in fact a Lagotto Romagnolo and a Lagotto X Spinone

My Aunts harly dane (PIP big man

) was always being mistaken for a big dalmation........none of us were very amused about it!!

Oh, RLD, photos please. I haven't even heard of those breeds

Well, yes, I know Spinones, I like them.
I always ask rather than hazard a guess and a) cause offence or b) make myself look a bit of a numpty

Mine don't get mistaken for anything, Boston is a classic GSD and Rip, well he's a black shagpile carpet crossed with a hound of some kind!

LOL - well Finny NEVER gets mistaken for anything but a HUGE GREAT BIG FRIENDLY WIGGLY BEAR!!!
smile.gif
hehe!!!

People always approach cautiously and say "Excuse me is THAT a Ridgeback?" LOL to which Finny replies with his waggly bum "YUP - KISS ME!!!"

It's funny really whever we go you always here "Oh that's a Ridgeback" "What a lovely boy" "Wow look at the size of him" "Nice strong lad" etc!!!

Thanks for the link, my first HHO lesson for the day.

Wow!

I can see why they are mistaken for a Poodle cross, if I saw one I would firstly think 'Water Spaniel, but maybe not' Interesting breed.

My puppy seems to confuse people...

They know he is a lab - but noone belives he is pure bred because he has a wavy coat... I got asked the other day if he was a Labradoodle
crazy.gif
- and others just say 'what is you puppy - a lab crossed with something?'

He is 100% pedigree

he has a wave in his coat - which is common given his particular pedigree - but i guess they aren't so usual...

here he is:

I keep getting people ask me if Stanley is a Spinone - I get quite cross (discreetly) because I don't think the Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla looks anything like a Spin. Perhaps it's because I live with them.

I have a Jack Russell Terrier who is BT colour so I keep getting people telling me she's BT - she's NOT!! She's JR I've seen her parents, there are such things as throw backs

If she was normal colour no one would say anthing. LOL *off my soap box*

We used to get people ask if the German Wirehaired Pointers were Lurchers

Vizslas are really common in my little town - loads of people seem to have them.

Surprisingly, they're very common in NYC. Most of them seem to be avid running companions, and are very slight in build compared to the ones I saw wandering around at Badminton Horse Trials.

I'm usually good with breeds (the variety here is incredible) but I met my first Polish Lowland Sheepdog yesterday, and was a bit stumped as to what it was. Lovely looking creature, though.

Wolves, Akitas, GSD crosses, Rare black and white GSDs, Northern Inuits or Alaskan Malamutes

Cant wait till our mally comes home in 9 weeks know for a fact she`ll be known as the offspring of my two sibe BOYS!!

people often ask what breed my JRT is!:
