What browband/noseband would suit my horses head?

I know others know more on this than me.

Having to get him a new browband now and as it then won't match the noseband plus I hate that it's a crank one I want to just replace both. Figured I may as well pick something that suits his head but I don't know what. He has had a flat noseband before and it looked fine and his current one is raised and looks fine but dunno what would look best.

It is mainly for dressage but we may do some fun showing next year too.

Here is a picture of his head to get an idea for shape:

If you can show me examples too that would be great. I don't want one of those shiny noseband though I don't like them. Don't want too much bling on the browband if you choose something like that. Not too expensive either and must be black. Thanks :)

I cannot help with the bridle but when I saw him, I thought of this -

So a cross between the two may look nice as a go between for dressage and showing.

Hope that helps, I must say, he is lovely!

If you fancy a bit of showing then go for leather without bling - with a pretty horse like yours I'd suggest something plain and not too wide, you just want to 'frame' his good looks.

Have you got a traditional saddler near you who could make him the pieces? Then you'd get exactly what you want and you could discuss the options.

Thank you. That is kind of what he has now although that looks a little bulkier than his current one.

I should have put what his current bridle is. It's nothing fancy it doesn't even have a brand but it's like this:

I wasn't going to spend hundreds on a new bridle that was just going to be used for schooling and low level competitions. When/if he gets to higher levels he will get a prettier one. Although I do like the current one but don't think it suits him as much as others would.

I do actually it was her who noticed that the browband was a bit tight on him and he needs an xfull. Don't know how I didn't notice I knew he wasn't liking his bridle as he keeps head tossing but I couldn't figure out what. Never thought that the browband was tight as I thought it was fine. But it is pulling against his ears which can't be comfortable even though it's all padded.

Ah ha! Lots of horses seem to want longer browbands - my Welsh cobs and the new Fell used/use XF browbands on cob and pony sized bridles (they need space to keep those ample brains I guess :) ). My saddler has made me a couple of lovely ones - very plain but beautiful leather.

Haha exactly. Yeah the saddler did say it might be possible to extend it a bit although I dunno how in all honesty. I will just try and find some bigger ones that will suit him. Do you think a curved one might? I quite like them but not sure if it's going to make him look odd.

Beautiful horse I just bought one of these for my horse http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/371513139...49&var=640551136555&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

cut strips o paper or card different widths and place these on the horses face to see what suits, if you use a bridle without a noseband you can tuck the ends under the cheeks and stand back for a good look - you'll soon see what suits

Do the same with the browband and print out pics of coloured ones to hold against the face too

Think if I did that the people at the stables would think I am nuts and they already think that haha.

I am just not good at knowing what suits a horse bridle wise or saddle wise like how those who show know.

The tack you use for showing depends on which classes you enter. I expect that you will show your horse as a hunter, so he needs a flat noseband and browband, width to suit his face. As he has quite a long face, he could take a reasonably wide noseband. No bling required on a hunter bridle. You could use the same tack in low level unaffiliated dressage. Although black tack is more usual for dressage and some bling is acceptable, most UA competitors will only have one set of 'best' tack.
