What budget would I need? for this type of horse???

Hi all

I am at the point where I am starting to look for a new horse. I want ....

Show type cob, approx 15hh, true heavyweight (up to carrying 14 stone). Aged 6 to 10 years. Sensible, but active, responsive and forward going paces. Can be a little green but must be willing to learn. Suitable for riding club activities, local shows (trailblazers), including cob classes and able to hunt too. Also safe on roads, easy to do (load, shoe, clip)

What sort of budget will I need. How will the time of year/weather/market effect the price?

For a true heavyweight show cob.....and an allrounder......minimum 6k for something unproven and then the sky is the limit really.
 
I'd say anything from 4k very minimum. There are tons of 15hh 4/5/6yos on the market, lovely types from ireland and will potentially make fantastic horses but normally very green, something that has already done enough to make it sane/sensible and suitable for a normal amateur rider are slightly harder to find!!
 
Sounds just like my girl - she has also BE'd getting a 19.5 for DR and went clear XC and happily does BN. She'll show too. She cost me just under 5k just over a year ago and I've turned down far higher offers for her since then. Good ones really are worth their weight in gold.

Totally recommend Emma at ClipClop Traders - Lionheart looks very smart indeed.
 
I would say you would be looking at spending a minimum of 4-5k for a safe cob with show quality. If it has good breeding lines, etc and has got some good showing results to its name, then you could easily spend around 8k.

Having said that, with the market being as slow as it is as the moment, it's the best time to buy at the moment as prices are low at the moment and if you are lucky you could end up getting a nice horse for 1-2k cheaper than what it would have been worth a year ago! It's a buyer's market at the moment so if you are going to get one, don't wait too long as prices will pick up again as we start heading towards the spring.
 
If you could take on something a bit younger, I do know of a 15hh 5 yr gelding shortly being re-advertised, hasn't done 'everything', but what he has done he's taken totally in his stride. I looked at him to buy when he was for sale just before Christmas. He was too heavy build for me, but he was so lovely and I could very much see him hogged in the show ring.... I'll PM you the details once I now the add is on-line in case he's of interest.

Yes, Emma at Clip Clop is a dealer, but she has an excellent reputation. Do a search on here and you will see many members have had dealings with her and been very happy. Myself included - I got my Harvey from her and he's everything she said he was - pros and cons!. If you like one of her horses, but she doesn't think it will suit you, she wouldn;t sell it to you. I'm so glad I made the journey, even though it was a 6 hour round trip, although obviously I don't know how far you have to travel. I also love this one she has -
