I'm currently leasing a 4 year old thoroughbred and I'm wondering what she would excell in. She doesn't have the typical thoroughbred build. Shorter legs and descent chest. She's trained English and in someways looks like a quarter horse. What do you think???

I would imagine with the correct training she could have a go at anything. Rather than thinking what she is built for I would be more inclined, to find out through training, what her forte is and what she enjoys most.

Is this the mare that turns her hind to you when you tack up and which constantly trips? Putting all this together - and her age! - perhaps just start with some good classical training and see where she goes? At 4 she is young still and may not even have her full growth. I presume she wasn't raced - but if she was that gives you a whole other set of re-schooling issues.

Start her nicely on the basics and see what she moves toward over the next couple of years. Her developing build and temperament - and your own preference -will show you what way she is best suited to go.
