I am thinking of putting my TB on a calmer for the firework season he is natrually laid back but when he is spooked by something he becomes very stressed very very quickly. I posted in the NL and it was said that 'a lot of 'hot' horses ie thoroughbreds and arabs are intolerant to magnesium and mag based calmers can actually make them worse!!!! '
I have been recommended many different calmers, some magnesium based and some not.
What calmer do you find works on your TBs?

Maxacalm from Maxavita helped mine when he was coming back into work and on box rest.
He's naturally laid back too and I've stopped it now he's going out again.
I think it does have magnesium in it but it has other things including herbs which have a calming effect.

I use NAF magic for ours...like you I'd heard that sometimes the magnesium etc can actually make them more hyper but I decided to give this a try anyway. It's got magnesium and lots of different herbs in but it has definately made a difference and he's much more relaxed!

Another vote for Global Herbs TB calmer, had used every equine calmer under the sun and this was the only one to make a real difference,my friend also uses it on her totally mental mare,it bites, kicks, you name it and has now turned into a different horse (she only has this horse because it a fab s.jumper and is vvvv talented!!) mine is mental enough, rather her!

Nupafeed. As recommended by National hunt yard after we'd had no success with Magic. Has worked a treat on our 17'2" hyper Irish TB who has been off sick for 7 months. It is mag based though.
