Long story as short as I can make it. Last year my grandad passed away and he had a dog. We had to rehome him so i advertised him on a free site. Someone came into contact and came to see him. As my mum was under a great deal of stress at the time she didnt do the things she should have in hindsight. She gave the dog away that same day but wanted to come visit him. Since then we have tried to contact them via the same site to find out how hes doing can we come visit. We have made calls and they have basically said no and been very distant claiming we would unsettle him. My mum sent a card at easter again asking to come see him and for photos no response.
Now in the past week we have rang several times no answer. So I raised the issue with the admin on the site we advertised him on. Eventually 3 days ago I got a reply saying basically they didnt know how to tell us but he had died 4 weeks ago just alseep in his bed. He was just 10 and always been a very healthy dog never been to the vets.
All my family found this hard to believe so we rang and again got very dismissive short replys and also had been give the wrong address 4 times.
Today we drove down to their house unbeknown to them and the place was a mess, clearly not a good state. We went and questioned the neighbour who basically told us he knows the RSPCA has been out there a number of times they have more that one dog (to us we believed our dog we gave them was the only dog they had) said that they buy and sell dogs too. He was very helpful and said he would look into their garden/ house and see if he could see him and contact the landlord.
Eventually we spoke to the people who sold us the same story. But also found out they got a female straight after getting our dog and was trying to breed him. They claimed he was walked 3 miles around fields and everything. These people are very obese and heavily breathing stood just talking to us. My cousin asked the question how many dogs she had and she bit her head of saying its none of your business if you wanna call the RSPCA then do so, your messing with the wrong person. They claimed they buried him a mile down the road in the woods? All things adding up becoming very suspect.
We had rang the RSPCA before but in short said they could only act on welfare case and we would have to have reason that he was not being looked after and we would have to have seen him etc... so they were no help.
My question is, is there anything at all that can be done, to either get our dog back (if they are lying just to get us off there case) or to just find out the truth. Any help appreciated.
I know this was a very very foolish mistake and we realise that now (although) I wasnt there at the time he was handed over only found out afterwards.
