Dont know if some of you remember, i decided to get my old horse PTS as he has various ailments, and is not recovering from a knee op very well. On friday was meant to be having discussion with vet at the surgery, and i went down the yard before work to find his good knee swollen and hot, couldnt believe it as this is his good front leg, and i discovered a 2 inch laceration at the back (the vet thinks it could be that he has caught himself with his back leg when rising).

Had the vet out and hes on bute and antibiotics, we made a date for PTS (nxt week), and the plan was to spoil him rotten as he could still go out and was no lamer than usual.

Then my new ridden horse has came down with a bad back (vet checked him and it seems to be my NEW 3 MONTH OLD saddle that is bridging and causing him wither pain and pain at the back of teh saddle (was only check 2 WEEKS AGO!!). SO physio out on Thursday - at least 2-3 weeks off riding.

Anyway, if thats not bad enough...... the fields and access road to yard has flooded and thre is no turnout (unless they want to swim in 3 ft of water - they both need turnout with their problems, and im feeling guilty because my old horses last week is going to probs be in a stable

.

On top of this, my car is stranded at the yard, as it is only accessible by 4x4, and my work has had to get me a lease car, so i am struggling to even get to the yard (they are on part livery luckily).

What else can go wrong.... i cant cope anymore x Oh and i am on a course in london tomorrow which means 6 hours down today from teh north east and 6 hours back tomorrow after my course tomorrow.

This is probably not what you want to hear - but why not just get your old lad done as soon as possible - the hunt would probably come up tomorrow and do it for you, and take him away.

Sorry you're having such a rubbish time.

Huge hugs. It must be really hard. Just make sure your old boy is fussed in his stable with lots of apples, carrots and yummy things. I am sure he will appreciate it.
You must have a come back on your saddle if it is that new. Give the saddler a call and explain what has happened. You will probably find that they will do anything they can to help you out.
Keep your chin up.

Agree with AmyMay - dont prolong the inevitable, if the old lad is stuck in due to the weather he isnt going to be having any fun, with his legs swelling up and sore. The hunt would deal with it all very swiftly for you - we had to make a similar decision once with our old boy, and they made it as easy as it could be for us.

Sorry you're having a bad time though

I cant even get it done now as the road is impassable, plus he is OK and not in pain, the grooms are giving him special attention and walking him in hand for grass etc, plus arrangements have been made for the vets and the crem.

Oh big hugs hunny.

I'm really sorry but unless something drastic happens with the weather I agree with AmyMay and MizElz. Your vet should be more than happy to re-arrange. In the long term its probably for the best for both of you - you no longer have to wait and he'll be at peace and comfortable.

I also agree that the saddler should be more than happy to come out and make adjustments - they have a reputation to protect.

I'm sorry you are faced with all of this xx
