What can I do about problem riders?

Next time you see them go along behind them and lock the gates so they have to come and ask you to open it and take photos at the same time. It shouldnt affect the considerate users but will make them more aware and hopefully make them think, then you can actually chat to them face to face about it.

Now that's an interesting idea, DaftHoss, I'll bear it in mind if everything else fails, though it still puts me in the position of doing something against the law when all I want is to make these riders stay within the rules.

I suppose another 'if all else fails' solution is to fence off the bridleway, but apart from the expense, as a walker myself I really dislike paths like that. They either end up horribly muddy, or if not used then they turn into a tangled mess of nettles and brambles.

Bannock - I wish we had a few more landowners like you round here. I do understand how annoying it must be to have that bad minority about, but it's always the responsible users that suffer from paths that are choked with nettles (practically all of them around here:(), locked gates etc. I hope you manage to get this sorted out!

Oh wow, what a shame that theres a handful of inconsiderate 'children' (hardly the attitude of a grown up is it?) and giving most riders a bad name.

At the end of the day it takes 2 minutes to jump off open said gate, go through, close it again and jump back on. It personally doenst bother me as I have plenty of other opportunities further on in the ride to canter and I wouldnt feel comfortable in leaving someones gate open just for my benefit. But then im considerate of others.

read a few of the several pages, its quite annoying how a few riders can ruin everything, only say 15% of riders are inconsiderate and rude, same goes for hacking and how some riders are rude towards cars/dont say thanks :(

Im trying to picture how its all set up, never had to ride on a bridleway thats got gates :o
but id be happy to open and close them, especially as im an animal lover aswell, and its just downright rude!!

Id also go for a slow closing gate, which is legal, although it would make my blood boil and id probably go for the locking option to annoy them

but if you were to take any action, youd obviously have to be in the right all the way, so maybe not best, like i put, havent read it all so i dont know what the situation is atm, but hope its all sorted for you, what a pain
