As my horse and the donkeys seem to have eaten half of the straw tin their barn i presume we have oat straw, could this be partly responsible for the naughty behaviour and full of himself attitude my horse has been acting like??

Would agree... BSJA123 - why are you worried? Is it that it costs to put more in or is it that you're worried it's harmful?

It's not harmful. I let mine eat the bed, stops the boredom, varies fibre type, perfectly high in fibre and low in sugar and sometimes he eats his bed in between haynet munchings. There's lots of straw in chaff so what's the difference.

As for jeyes fluid... I don't believe some of you are actually using that on animal bedding!

With you very quietly in the background...........

We do give our horses hay but we are the minority.......the only ones.....at a 150 horse yard......

There isn't actually very much colic at our yard either.

Do what is best for YOUR horse :)

as above and also with Tally Ho , 5 years of keeping horse in Cyprus cured me of any concerns about horses eating straw....mine survived very well thank you very much on hard feed and straw for roughage never colic on the entire 50 horse yard in all that time.

My chap has two haynets overnight now and was still standing there like a complete donk chewing away at his straw bed go figure. Even when he was on shavings I used to tip a trug of straw onto it so he had some to play with and chew on.

BSJA I really would not be concerned
