Hi all :)

I want some ideas on what sort of activities to do with my 2 year old, so that he can be ready to be sent off to be backed next spring.

Currently I take him on regular walks in and out of traffic, Ive took him to one show and going to another one on sunday. He can stand, he trots when i say trot (Inhand obviously) He can be grommed i can pick his feet up urrrrm i can mess with him in the stable, he ties up perfectly, we evern tried to play football yesterday with a massive yoga ball haha!

I would like to start abit of free lunging or long reining (not too much) perhaps just to get him used to voice commands :)

also i jump up and down next to him to ge him used to me jumping on him... (not actually getting on JUST jumping before someone miss reads that)

Also hes been bitted allready and has his key bit in once a week :) oh and loads beautifully.

what else can i do :D

Sounds like you've done plenty already with him.

Providing he's well handled and has manners, all you've done should be enough.

Could you take him out somewhere in the trailer and graze in-hand (obviously getting permission to graze on land, too!) and really get to know him? Introduce to cattle, dogs, chickens? Just some de-spooking exercises before you get on, makes backing that much easier! :) good luck

well ive taken him to a show and we were out for all day and he was perfec so cant see that being an issue. urrrrrm we have 3 big german shephards at home that run through his legs, so that doesnt bother him either. Urm hes seen sheep before but not chickens... could find some chickens one day haha!!

Get him walking over things like old rugs or pieces of tarpaulin(secured). Walk him past umbrellas, flappy things. Make a little obstacle course. Don't overload him. You sound very sensible though.

Thanks :) that sounds like a good idea... There's a load of plastic at the yard :) when the rains gone ill make a course for him haha! I could get him walking over poles couldn't it aswell just so he's not scared of it :)

Yes, you could the walking over poles, getting used to plastic, etc. but be VERY careful that you do not frighten him, make progress in very little steps.
