What can I do with my horse?

the horse is four, give it a chance no four year old is perfect and still growing might just need to find it's feet, all horses deserve a chance. :(

A week ago she was coming on well but has developed arching her back and leaping in the air thus losing the rider. She has been advertised honestly and although there have been quite a few enquiries no-one has followed up their initial enquiry. Perhaps I was too honest in what I said. We have had 2 young horses over the last 20 years and had no problems backing them and they both turned out to be "family horses". Sadly we lost one to laminitis when she was 5 and another to septicemia when she was 8. So not the luckiest horse people in the world when it comes to horses! It would be unfair of us to put her in the field for a year and then have the same issues a year on and to be honest she will never be the horse for us.

So she bucks? Sheesh, give her a chance! Many years ago I broke a TB x who turned out to be more of a rodeo horse. I was only young and so it didn't phase me at all. I persevered and persevered. He went through a phase of rodeoing for around 6 months, and I mean proper head between his knees twisting bucks. I even took him to shows where he did the same thing. I managed to sit the bucks and he eventually just stopped doing it. He was sold on to a teenager and I continued to hack him out once a week for her. I would take my dog along and the horse was perfectly behaved. He would never be a 'family horse' as he had plenty of spark, but he was an ideal teenagers horse.

This has got to be a wind up. Bought an unbroken filly as a family horse, spent £2,000 on education and then because of one incident you don't "want" her any more, advertise her straight away, give her a week to sell and when she doesn't you want to put her down. Nice try.

I am beginning to regret putting this post on the forum. I was only looking for help/advise from people. I have been surprised at the unpleasantness of some of the posters. This was a genuine call for help. Thank you to those of you who did offer constructive advise. If anyone is seriously interested in giving my mare a home please pm me as previous adverts have not provided any offers of a home for her.

Could you provide us with a link to your adverts?
Perhaps we could help you word them better? You would be suprised what a well worded advert can do :D

I am with damnation - also hoping that you maybe didn't explain yourself so well in the OP.

Along the way we have all had posts jumped on with negativity. I would love to see what your mare is like and will PM you. I honestly hope that someone with the time to spend (it might take a summer at grass) can bring her right. Please understand that the letters PTS stir some very strong reactions from folk x

She will be returning from the trainers yard at the weekend as they have said they will not ride her again after she lost the groom and she sustained an injury. The problem they had with her was that she gave no warning of what she was going to do. I trust the people we sent her to and I know they have spent a lot of time and energy on her, as we did prior to deciding she needed someone with more experience and time to produce her. She has no health issues and is fit and well. I advertised her on Project Horses and on Horsemart and on Preloved. So I suppose it is just a matter of waiting now and then making the right decision for her and for us.

There are no horses on Project Horses, or on Horsemart placed in the last 3 weeks, matching your description of a 4 year old mare.

I am sorry but that is not an appeal for help, that is an advert to find someone to take your mare off you which is against the terms and conditions of the forum. If you wanted advice there has been plenty of it on the thread, i.e. you are panicking too easily, this is either a young horse being young or she is in pain so get the vet out and then send to a more experienced training yard.

Im sorry but how did you expect people to react when you are basically saying if you cant rehome her after a week you will be putting a perfectly healthy 4 year old to sleep!!!
