What can I do with my older horse?

I still have my 22 year old pony. He is starting to show signs of age and get a little stiff (though still just as game to be ridden!) and I want to keep him busy and ticking over so he can keep in the best health possible. I tried to find a sharer to help me out but it wasn’t possible due to the fact he is convinced he is 4.
I’ve been trying to come up with some things I could do with him, so I have an aim and he can get out and about (which he enjoys). Hunting would be IDEAL but that’s a no go as he will try to plant me in a ditch and crash through everyone…tried and tested. I was thinking about some low level showing in the summer but can’t think of anything we could do now… I don’t want him jumping as feel he has done his job there and isn’t too keen on doing it anymore.
Any suggestions?

unaff dressage or showjumping? i usually show, but am aiming at some low level dressage over winter because i struggle unless ive got something to aim for!

dressage, the lateral work would be good for his mobility and help his keep his joints mobile. you can learn all the moves properly in walk even. it will be a massive benefit to your riding for your next horse.

For winter, TREC (they have a winter league series) would get my vote. I've always found it friendly & lots of fun!

For next year, how about Trec summer series and/or low level Endurance pleasure rides? There are some social rides that run over winter to get the feel of it.
