A lady on the yard has very kindly offered her lorry to drive if I want to, for staying overnight, and it's a 5.5 tonne. Can I drive it on a B1 licence? I passed after 1997 and am over 25 (would check both our insurances to make sure we were covered there obviously). I thought I could only drive up to 3.5 tonne but I may be mixing it up with the trailer towing restrictions. The DVLA site says 'B1: Motor tricycles, quadricycles and three or four wheeled vehicles with an unladen weight no more than 550 kg' but doesn't mention a laden weight.

Am hoping I can take her lorry to Stoneleigh as it has living and would be so much easier!

Thanks :)

Oh poo but thank you. Why is the wording so confusing? To me it sounds as if I can drive something that's 5.5 tonne unladen and as it makes no mention of laden weights I thought it meant I could drive a 5.5 tonne lorry. I'm never going to be able to afford to do all the tests, it's not fair! :( May have to rent a 3.5 tonne and get someone to drive the efficient Fiesta up so it's not overweight (on the plus side we'll have a means of getting of site :))

I think you may be getting confused ...

B1 = Motor tricycles, quadricycles and three or four wheeled vehicles with an unladen weight no more than 550 kg

B = basic car licence but allows up to 3.5 tonnes

LGV C1 = up to 7.5 tonnes
