Have just moved house and...we have land 2 acres :-)

I cant move my horses there (no where to ride and small ginger one needs worked) so....what can i have in the field to keep the grass down?

there is loads of shelter (trees, hedges etc) and whatever goes in woudl have to get on with dogs ie no donkeys :-)

or sheep, they would escape i think.

Any ideas?

You could let the grass grow and make hay.

Why is there no where to ride - is there no hacking near the field?

I would kill for 2 acres of land - but so expensive down here (Somerset).

I would love to have the horses at home but the house is on an absolutely choca bus route and my yard has good hacking atm its more important to me that i can ride him regularly (we have an indoor) and i can hack him out safely or else they would be there:-) my big mare could come but shes a very useful nanny horse :-) i thought about rescue ponies but didnt know if theyd let me have them as the dogs are so big (doberman) though not nasty and they are walked thru the field. anyone know?

Don't think having a well behaved dog would stop you being able to take ponies from a rescue organisation .
But they would look at shelter whether you had organised somewhere not necessarily a stable to groom and handle them. That the fences where safe water etc etc
And that you had a plan to get a stable ( I think elsewhere would be fine ) if something went wrong and of course you sounded like you know what's what.
At the moment I should think they will be desperate to rehome ponies.
Oh yes we looked at laminitis management did you have a plan for when thin ponies become fat ones.
You could look at fostering too, some charities do that ,short term care and handling before they rehome to permanent homes that can be very rewarding.
