What Can I Spray on My Horses Hooves to Keep Them Healthy & Fungus Free??!

Hi all,

My mares feet are usually in great condition with no probs. However recently she has had a case of seedy toe and a hoof abscess! she has also had a (very slight) tough of mud fever. Can anyone reccomend me something antibacterial/antifungal i could spray her feet (and possibly legs-she has white socks) with to keep them healthy? Home remedy ideas welcome!!
ps. Im sure i read something about cider vinegar being good for this? i could be wrong!

Silvetrasol. Bit pricey but you use a tiny bit. More effective than just about anything.
Oh, and make sure that you and your farrier keep on top of any flare in her hooves.

I'm not sure about the abcess, but I spray on a home made tea tree oil diluted with water onto my mare's frogs and heels at the moment and that keeps them quite nice.

My mare has white legs and gets mud fever when it is wetter, I tried a lot of things like cream etc but the best thing I have found (and it is amazing how fast it worked) was Keretex mud fever powder, (not sure of technical name!) it's about £12 a bottle but defo worth it and I've got loads left.

I have always used white vineger! it works wonders getting rid of fungus in the hoof and the provention of it!

Red horse Products for the footcare and pig oil and sulphur for mud fever prevention. Do a patch test first to be on the safe side

Used Cider Vinegar to help clear thrush up- both a splash in the feed, and also into the clefts in the feet. Stung him a bit, but it helped to get rid of the thrush and he certainly seemed to recover more quickly once the cider vinegar was added into the equation. Just make sure the feet are completely clean beforehand.
