hi all

this was my previous post

http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=505636

well he got his dog back on tuesday and he lasted until sat before it once again turned up :(

YO noticed a car pull up and went out to find him putting the dog in the car ,he said "sorry love i think he caught your bitch"
you think ,well did he or didn't he ? was the reply

"well yes he did , but its ok i like puppies so ill take them on"
erm no your a complete ******** idiot who shouldn't have the dog you have :(

so bitch is going to the vet to deal with it as there is no way she's keeping them but what can we do about this ?

obviously he has noticed the dog missing and came straight away to collect it , it still has no collar or MC as far as i'm aware ,can we report him to the police ?

if i catch the dog again i'm tempted to take it to a shelter 50 mile away so he can't get it back :( would this work ? although i know not nice for poor dog its not his fault really

have we any right for him to pay the vet bill for sorting the bitch out ,she was in her own garden ,he said it has barked constantly since he got it back because he can't let it out ,he won't tie it up because he doesn't like it

the man can be quite agressive too :( so don't really want to confront him again :(

Agree - one for the dog warden but you could coat the dog with purple spray as it would be the closest thing to hand if the dog comes on your property again.

yea didn't think they would be interested :(

dobiegirl he is sometimes wondering along a 60mph road on his way home :( i feel sorry for the dog (he's lovely) but he is going to cause an accident as well as being a pest

it is tempting to catch him and get him "done" but i can't afford to spend that kind of money on someone elses dog

So...the reaosn this knobber lets the dog roam is that he cannot stand the dog barking to be out! becasue clearly the dog is a randy fecker who has not/will never be castrated. I would have been livid if I was the owner of the bitch I am affraid.
He obviously came looking for the dog to avoid the kennel scenario so is partially learning a lesson. It is a pity you could not get hold of the dog first and send it on back to the pound where he would foot another bill.
Where abouts are you by the way? PM if you prefer or you may not want to at all lol:D
I would send the bill to him for the bitches injections or atleast half.

Can't you get the owner "done" too at the same time, perhaps the vets would do you a "buy one get one free"?

Why was the in season bitch allowed out unsupervised especiallly knowing there is a random male wandering around?

As I said before, take it to a dog warden miles away, well out of your area. Just tell them you found it whilst walking your dog. No need to say where you come from. I suspect the dog would be far better off neutered and rehomed. I also suspect the idiot owner will not be that bothered about finding him,

Sorry, feel a rant coming on......... I know Dog Licences weren't ideal, BUT this sort of thing makes one wonder if perhaps there is a case for their re-introduction, however, it would no doubt be a hopeless cack-up if left to something like DEFRA to organise, gawd help us all.

Feel very sorry for OP: this is a difficult situation caused by someone else's bone-idleness, carelessness, and downright shockingly bad animal husbandry - and OP has been responsible enough to deal with the situation from the outset, at own cost unfortunately.

WHEN TF will people keep their dogs under control??? aaaaarrrgghhh.

I tend to agree with "Bosworth's" advice; basically yes you could tell your local dog warden, but if you do this then at least you know the problem is gonna be solved.

WHY is it that men in particular are so darned churlish about having their dogs "bits" done??? This isn't the first time I've heard of a situation like this. FGS!!!

Trouble is idiot owner will possibly go out and get another one, let's hope not!

The point is? If the garden is not secure enough to keep marauding males out and you don't want random pups/vet bills-keep her secure!

Umm, have to point out that IF randy male dog in the throes of doggie passion WANTS to get in the garden coz of a bitch in heat......... then basically - it will!!! And there ain't much that'll keep it out - unless you maybe got some electric fencing or summat fixed up?? Don't know OP's garden set-up, but might it be possible?

Because they don't want to pay vet bills/have pups? It's not difficult.. Tell them to get her spayed if its such a hardship. Better healthwise anyway.

Agree with this, but next time take him for a "surgical holiday",don`t suppose the daft owner would even notice.

I too would say to get the bitch spayed unless they are actualy intending on breeding from her down the line.

Has anyone actually suggested to this man to have his dog castrated? I think I would tell him to either get it done or next time the dog is found on the property you will get the dog warden to pick it up again and he will be fined AGAIN! Castration would be the quickest (and cheapest in the long run) way to stop this dog roaming.

I also thought by law a dog had to have a collar and tag on? Therefore he is breaking the law so can he not be fined for this also?

Everyone is making assumptions about the bitch but seem to forget this dog has been coming to the op for quite a while, long before the bitch came on heat. The dog is the problem not the bitch, maybe they intend to breed from the bitch but she is too young yet, lots of reasons come to mind.

if they dont intend to breed then I agree with having her spayed for health reasons. The dog if he was owned by a reponsible person would have been neutered which would have stopped him roaming looking for bitches. Its quite possible the owner dosnt exercise his dog hence his wandering and who can blame him. I would be taking him to the next counties dog warden if it was me.

Hi
Susiet I asked for advice not to be patronised thanks ,but you have no helpful input go and be abrupt in someone else's post

We're in south Northumberland , we are responsible owners , my dog is nutured and the bitch in question is a choc lab with Heath checks and a good pedigree so they may choose to breed for her in the future if there would be a home for any puppies but no plans to as yet but that is her choise

The dog in question is coming from 3 mile away over the fields and jumped into a well secured garden , the bitch had only gone out for a wee while owner put a load of washing in at 7.30am, she took her eyes of her for a minute and is not keeping any puppies how can she of been anymore responsible

Thanks everyone else were being vigilant and will hopfully catch the dog before owner does next time an drive him out of the county to a shelter somewhere else

Owner is furious but the man is aggressive and the yard is cut off and we are trying not to start a tit for tat with man :(
But obviously need to sort this out

Thanks again for the helpful replies

When I worked for the hunt we had several terriers un-neutered used for flushing foxes and they lived in the stables with the horses but had access to the yard. One of them went off and jumped up on a wall and on to a roof of a shed where a bitch in season was being kept. He got in through the roof having knocked some tiles off and was found by the owner with his bitch.

There is no limit to what a dog after a bitch will do and I think its unfair to blame the owner of the ops bitch for taking her eye off the ball whilst she was hanging out her washing.

I took someones dog and got i neutered, the bloody thing kept wandering and had already forced its way into a friends house and badly injured their bitch. it ripped out a cat flap, and half an external door. then ate its way through an internal door. My lurcher bitch was in season, she was in her kennel and run, It ate its way through the back of the wooden kennel and mated with her. I had my bitch spayed immediately, but also handed over huge deformed black lab dog who was the culprit and had him neutered at the same time. yes i paid for it. But I just grinned at the satisfaction i personally got knowing that they would one day realise their dog had no jewels and have no idea who did it to it. I also did make sure the vet used dissolvable stitches.
i heard on the grapevine that owner was livid, but no one knew who had done it. Owner was a nasty piece of work, he deserved it.

hi thanks again
i was on phone earlier so sorry for spelling mistakes :o
we have put electric fence around the garden to prevent him getting back in (good idea thanks :) ), he hasn't been back (not seen anyway) since sat so hopefully the stupid owner has gotten the message but i very much doubt it

i have rang the dog warden again and he is going to have another word with him ,he is well known and they are sick of dealing with him ,the dog is 12yrs old and he has let him out all his life but as said in earlier post he has just started to turn up at ours since the yard down the road had there bitch pts

he is having problems because he has never put the dog on a lead or even had a collar on it as we found when we caught him he wouldn't walk on the lead we had to pick him up and carry him about as he just lay down ,we thought that was because we were strangers but obviously not

he will not put a collar on him ,he's been told many times and he won't get it "done" ,we suggested that to him and he looked horrified
his garden isn't secure so god knows if the dog is even getting out the house at all now ,can't belive how stupid he has been :(

so next time i see it ill be driving out the area with him as suggested as i can't see any other way of sorting it out ,he is not only being a pest to us but has no road sense and will eventually cause an accident

thanks again for all the suggestions :)

iv'e got to admit that sounds like a good idea, i have the vet coming on monday to see a horse so will ask how much it would cost
is there any legal implications about getting someone elses dogs balls removed ?
would that be theft ;)

that must have been a nightmare though actually coming into the house :( YO's other half is threatening to shoot it but we wouldn't let him do that ,its a lovely dog (a lot like my own dog) that just happens to have a very stupid owner :(

Hope the dog warden can finally make him see sense. My worry would be if you drive it out of the area the dog will spend the rest of its life in kennels or be pts, with so many dogs looking for homes a 12 yr old is not going to find it easy to get a new home
