What can you tell from the wear on their shoes?

For the first time ever my horse has worn out her shoes before needing to be shod because we have done so much roadwork lately.

The fronts are hardly worn at all but more so on the toe than anywhere else and the backs have worn right through on the outer half.

From this I would conclude that she engages her back end nicely but it seems strange that they have worn on the outsides only.

What do you think and how do your horses wear their shoes?

for the 1st time since he came back into work jay has worn all his toe away in 5 weeks,he is on the forehand a fair bit so i guess thats what it is

My horse wears the outside edge of his shoes down more than the rest and my farrier says not to worry and that it is more likely to do with the camber on the roads etc...but it should not be a drastic difference in wear though. I guess toes being worn would indicate dragging rather than picking up properly...but I am no expert!
