What CAN'T You Do?

I can't plait tails, I wouldn't even know where to start...good job I like a smart pulled tail!

I (currently) can't remember my dressage tests, last test I got to movement 4 then got very, very lost & the test before that I went wrong with Miss_C calling

I can't wait till I have my own transport!

Blimey!!

HHO should hold a Clinic for:

  • Bandaging
  • Plaiting & Pulling
  • Lower Leg Position
  • Diagonals
  • Looking Up

We're all officially rubbish. Out of interest, have any of you lots done BHS Exmas? (Horse care/stable management exams with British Horse Society, not shopping & spending money exams with British Home Stores):D

Exams  You are kidding right? :p

I have thought of another thing I can't do. When lunging I can't tell if Captain is cantering on the correct leg. Can when I am riding but not when lunging.

How do you tell? Please help as I feel such a prat!

Great thread :D

I can't plait. To save my life. I am the world's worst plaiter. :o

Another good reason for liking natives, traditionals and cobs then! ;)

I can't breath and ride at the same time, have a very bad habbit of holding my breath, funny thing is im hopeless and underwater swimming, run out of air very quickly when submerged.

And they tell me breathing is a natural reflex

I can't control my right side like I can my left - between us we might make a half decent rider ;) how would you feel about a small amount of experimental surgery? :D

In fact, I think I might be your opposite - I have a screw loose when it comes to risk taking (with myself, I take measures to make sure the ponies are ok, of course!) and I can't ever seem to find time to clean my poor tack.

I think you got the better half :(

You've got yourself a deal!!! Some more guts would be absolutly ace, and my tack doesn't need to be that tidy - I just need to get a grip and go to bed before midnight on show nights!!

Ummmm, I feel like this is a trick question! I hate lunging, but I personally tend to take a quick peek at its legs?!!! I'm not sure how else you would know?!!

This thread has been FANTASTIC for my self-esteem, thank you all! :D

I... can't muster up the courage to jump anything significant
... can't gather much confidence using this feckin bitless bridle and therefore
... can't be confident in canter (17 hands of ID-type horse in a bitless bridle, I am NOT convinced of the braking power, even though he's done nothing wrong!)
... can't STAND cleaning tack - would rather muck out the 8 stables on the yard than clean one bridle
... can't seem to keep a visit to the yard under an hour no matter how hard I try. Too many distractions!

Lol, love this thread.
I cant ..... Plait a tail, my manes are top notch but all my tails are pulled!
..... see a stride every time when jumping, I'm just sloppy!
..... do a decent blanket or trace clip, if I take the whole lot off they look passable, but
god help those poor souls I give blanket clips too.
..... teach a beginner, I have serious patience issues and end up with a splatted rider!

Go from a nice comy 15 2hh to an enormous 17hh without feeling I have a death wish.
The truth is the 15 2 is my man but knows his own mind, is always an intersesting ride, the 17hh is a pure genleman, on my first ride , I got the distinct feeling he was looking out for me, while I was being light headed due to the altitude he was careflully placing one foot in front of the other, in the school he was looking after me, being a total novice, this horse is now not for sale. my 15 2 hh will always be the love of my life but bolshe with it, but I look forward to future rides on my 17hh gentleman.
I need to develop a dignified dismount on the big boy

i generally cant ride haha!
i also cannot keep my tounge in my mouth whilst jumping,it always creeps out or goes into my cheek- so i spoil every pretty picture of the ponies!

Look up- My ponys neck is far too interesting!!!
Bandage - Well I normally end up getting annoyed so i ask someone else too do :p

And they're just a taster!! There are too many more too mention!!:o

I can't:

* shear sheep with electric shears.
* stand dirty tack.
* look up - some has to watch where he is putting his feet as he isn't!
* reverse a car and trailer when anyone is watching.
* list everything I can't do or we will be here till doomsday!

Nobody ask me anything about plaiting neatly and dressage!! Both baffle me (worrying since I have been doing BE for the past few years now... you'd think I would have learnt how it works yet but nope - if anything, my nerves have made my dressage even worse!)

I can't:

Plait tails - I think my fingers are too fat!!!!!! Manes are a piece of cake, but tails aint gunna happen!!!!!!!

Keep my thumbs on top - I played the piano for 10 years, my hands just go that way!

keep looking where I should - I always look down the horse's right shoulder at the floor.

Eat on the morning of a competiton - no matter how big or small a competition is, I just can't bring myself to eat anything until I have finished competing.

Keep my head straight whilst lunging a horse - I tilt it to the right!!!!!

Keep my back straight - I broke it several years ago, and it no longer straightens completely, so I always look a little 'hunched up'!

I can't:

Unload a horse from a trailer or lorry - if I go somewhere alone I'm quite happy to ask random strangers to get the horse out

Jump - lost my nerve over 20 years ago (used to do BSJA!) and have never bothered to try and find it

Plait anymore - darned arthritis! The mind is willing but the hands seize up

Tow - can drive a big truck in and out of loads of awkward situations, but just can't seem to pull anything, even in a straight line

Dismount correctly - darned arthritis again

Mount from a leg up - always worry I'm going to go right over! I would rather walk home if I couldn't find anything to climb up on

Put stirrup leathers back on the saddle 'done up' - I have to undo them and thread them through and always have done

Leave a horse on the yard if it's rug has slipped or come undone - I have to go and sort it out or I imagine it getting tangled up

Read Black Beauty or The Horse Whisperer without bursting into floods of tears!

There are lots of things I cant do but I will list a few!

I cant look up the ground is far too interesting.
I cant tell which canter lead I am on all of the time although I am getting there....slowly!
I cant plait manes I can do tails but not manes, they look life golf balls and just fall out.
I cant bandage as other have said they look awful.

The one thing that I cant do at the moment is find a horse to part loan or share but im sure I will find one soon or at least I hope so!!
