My friends horse has suddenly started forging, quite considerably and hasn't ever done it before.

The instructor said she needed to slow down her trot which didn't seem to make a difference (I was videoing for her). They told her to chat to her farrier who came and checked and said that he can't see a problem, shoes were only done 3 weeks ago and has been same farrier for years- he said he can roll the front toe if needed but she's really quite concerned.

I believe she's booked the vet for next week now.

Sore fore feet
Sore neck and or shoulders
Poor saddle fit
Heels collapsing and toes running forward on the hind feet .

She had saddler yesterday, a few of us had back and Saddles done as they aren't local so everyone books in at once

Edited To add:

Just spoke to her, saddle was down at front and was reflocked. Back person found some tightness at back of saddle but said it was nothing to worry about and wasn't extreme.

Forging is usually a sign of lack of balance, horse on its forehand and being asked to trot faster than it can cope with.

Balance can be affected by level of fitness. Slow trot, improve balance and fitness, fit rolled toe shoes to assist a faster break over.

Does she do this on the lunge? If so, you can at least rule out saddle problems.

Yes.. Although not as much.

She's going to work on fitness and balance, farrier is going to come out tomorrow to roll the toes to help.

I think she was concerned it was something more sinister but when we've watched the video she is trotting far too quickly and clearly on the forehand.

Thanks all.
