Hi everyone, I haven't been around much – Vanilla had an accident and has been off work for ages, but we are now almost competition ready again.

I need a new hat – ideally cheap (under £100) for everyday use. Any suggestions? For competitions I love my brown Samshield, so I guess that sort of style I quite like. No scull caps. I ride in the rain a lot and hat gets left on floor, picked up by dogs (and do fall off occasionally) etc so something that can take a bit of a battering.

Thank you! :)

I love my Champions. I have a Ventair Skull and a Ventair Riding Hat, use the skull everyday (and for XC) and the Riding hat for comps... both came in around £95. The riding hat looks very smart.

Little bit more but the Gatehouse Conquest hats are lovely and have changeable linings for when they get manky/ slobbered in by dogs etc ;) You can get the Mat finish for around £150

Happy I could help! :-D You should have a look at their other things in clearance, there are some quite good deals.

I have a gatehouse air rider for everyday. Vented with a removable washable lining and adjustable too. I got it for about £35 on sale.

I have a Harry Hall Legend Plus for everyday use. Very comfy, stylish, light weight and very good ventilation. All that for a great price as well. Not the easiest to clean due to the material which is a sort of synthetic type velvet but I have managed to get it looking as good as new again after it got caked in wet mud!

It doesn't matter what other people like - it's your head it needs to fit not theirs. My method is to go to the nearest well stocked shop, start with trying on the cheapest & work upwards til I find a good fit I can bear wearing. A hat is one thing I wouldn't buy online unless I knew for sure it would fit.

I have a Dublin Onyx which was about £55, I've had falls in them (obviously not the same hat!) and they've done the job :)
