O.K load down... Lets say 16.3hh because if he hasnt made it yet....He will....Six years old.... Education of a three year old.... Acts like a egiht year old tho.... Irish Sports Horse. Just backed walking and troting. What shows should I aim for? I doubt he will be up to clearing courses for his height come summer so ruling working hunters out? Oh is it possible to get away with a dressage saddle in showing/hunter classes? Bare with me hes not in the condition I would like....

Wow he is a lovely big lad! You could possibly get away with it (dont quote me on that!) but wouldnt recomend a dressage saddle for SH. Although he has a lot in front so i spose you wouldnt be hiding his front end. He really is a nice horse! Good luck with whatever you do with him x

He is out of work when those were taken...

Bringing him back now...By season he will be much more muscle. I hate his condition but atm not much I can do as not going to rush him.

Oh just realised hes only learning really isnt he, scrap the workers untill he is jumping, dont want to rush him do you, i would be tempted to take him in a couple of classes even though not relevant just for the experience. some riding clubs offer different classes, although are generally the same. Will have a look on my local riding clubs website.

just kidding, hes a lovely looking lad,how much bone does he have?

you could do middleweight hunters with him

[/ QUOTE ]No send him to me !!!

Novice horse- not sure what it entails but you could just do it for experience
Equitation on you lol
Riding horse if it was me id just try a few classes and see how you go, thats what i did with mine i had no clue what to do with her so i just tried different ones, and judge will advise you what classes they think you should be doing, And no i havent been laughed out of the ring before you asked, i wasnt completley stupid and didnt enter a stupid class like ridden arab with my cobby mare. I do have standards.
You could do riding club horse, if he is ok jumping one fence.

Vicky, just to let you know a riding horse is slightly heavier then a show hack but not as heavy as a show hunter, they are shown in pretty browbands witht the rider in a tweed jacket.

Thanks i kind of figured, as its in the same ring as the ridden showing at our riding club, I just didnt realise the whole extent of it?? But i think id just do a couple for experience but obv not over the top so you get laughed out of the ring.

Best to ask FMM but when he is in show condition i think he iwould be a Lightweight Hunter, could be middleweight. There could be novice working hunters you could do if he is ready. Your local riding club might have a summer show where they just have riding club horse which you could do as well.

If he is jumping by the summer some of the local shows have senior mini WHP classes, at my local riders club this was an average height of 2ft3 with the odd 2ft 6 jump and very nice inviting jumps.

He's a smasher - try looking around for novice workers cause sometimes they have very small courses - say 2ft -2ft 6". If he was mine I would get him out on some sponsored rides in the spring which could really help his jumping.

At local level, don't worry too much about topline and condition - just needs to be fit. Mine has what most would class as a weak topline but she has never been unplaced in WH.

Good luck!

He is fab, love greys!!

He is going to make a super worker, when you got him up and going well, don't blame you for not rushing him though, take your time and it will pay off! In the meantime if you just want to take him to shows and get him started, i'd say middleweight hunter classes and depending on how he rides...riding horse? Definately long term aim WH!!

As for saddle, may just get marked down for it a little in hunter classes, depending on what level of shows you are aiming for.

Have a fun season, sure you will!
