I recently bought a 14.1 Dales x Pony. He is not registered and i wouldnt know if i could or should do so. I was involved with horses when i was younger but never entered any competitions, and am trying to learn all i can. What i am finding confusing is what class could i jump my pony in. Would he come under a Cob or M & M? I have heard there are some problems with jumping ponies the older you are. I am 39 so wonder if this also restricts me.

If he's dales cross he possibly doesn't have enough bone to be a cob (although you will get stupid people telling you to 'put condition on him' to make him fat enough to look like a cob!

). You could do part breed M&M at local level though.

Not sure if you're post is meant to read like it does but they don't jump as a breed - jumping classes are seperated in to horses and ponies (usually 14.2 and under for ponies) and by jump heights - horse breed has nothing to do with it. The breed classifications come into play in flatwork show classes (and sometimes M&M Working Hunter).

At local levels, i.e riding club shows you may gbe able to jump your pony against others, depending on their rules. In relation to jumping him at shows affiliated to the BSJA I think at your age you would have to register him as a horse & jump him in horse classes. BSJA pony classes are all related to age & I'm afraid you are outside the age group.

I'm afraid I cannot answer anything about showing classes, never been involved in them, sorry.
