Right I think I might enter a local (small) show with my pony in summer (probs in the hols) it will be his first go, although I'll probably do a few where i'll take him, warm him up and get him used to the general atmosphere (as he is quite young, and has never shown before).... Anyways he's a beautiful (many people stop their cars when we are out hacking together and tell me this) and the local horsewoman assures me he's a proper little (hes only about 13hh) traditional coloured cob... That said however I'm not quite sure what class to go for b/c obviously it will be his first time in actual show ring/class... I've shown before but only as part of a show day run by my old riding stables, so I will probs be a bit anal about attention to detail.. One problem though he has a synthetic saddle... And he needs a numnah/grippy saddle cloth for it otherwise it moves around too much.... Is this a problem? Aaaaaahhhh!!! Yeah so anyways any suggestions for what class to take him in... I've been told he would make a good lightweight cob....??? Is this right (if you want to know what he looks like he is the piebald in my profile picture...)

He sounds lovely :) Local shows usually have a few classes to choose from:

Tack and turnout
Coloured (most don't have distinct classes for traditionals)
Pony Club pony (you may need to jump a little x-pole

You can't compete in cob classes really unless you hog and de-feather (some local shows will let you compete but you are VERY unlikely to get placed)

I think a coloured class would be your best bet - you turn them out for their 'type' so as a traditional with flowing mane, tail and feathers :D

For local showing a synthetic is ok. Can you use a plain black/brown coloured grippy numnah though, saddlecloths are really frowned upon.
