What clip is suitable for a horse that is still living out? I've never had to leave my horses to live out over winter but it looks like they are going to have to this winter and i really need to clip one of them out so i can work her a bit. I took her out for a steady hack on Saturday, only walking and a bit of trotting and she got quite sweaty and i don't want her to get a chill through it, also she gets a very thick winter coat when it comes through properly and would get very sweaty even in a walk so really needs clipping to any work at all. If they were coming at night i would have gone for a blanket clip but don't know if that might be a bit much for a horse that is living out.
Advice much appreciated. The field has natural shelter, trees and hedges but no field shelter if that helps.

I would trace clip, just removing the areas that sweat the most will make a huge difference to how quickly they cool down, if that is not enough maybe do more next time but as it gets cooler they tend to sweat less anyway, clip frequently so the benefit is not lost by the coat growing back.

Thanks. Will go for a trace and if i do get to fetch them in at night i can always take off some more if i need to then. Thankyou :D.
