what clip will your horse be having this winter (if any)

wagtail i completly agree. Thats like my question 2 above about people not knowing what hunter clips are. They leave legs on to allow the horses some protection. I used to clip my old boys kind of stupid feathers off as he got feather mites and mud fever so gave me a better base to clean. but wouldnt dream of taking my Tb's off!!

I think that there is some confusion too about trace and chaser clips.

I have taken everything bar the legs off. I did this about 3 weeks and it is due for annother in a few weeks as he is getting hairy again, will probably have 3/4 clips over the winter.

Very very sweaty horse

My TB will be having a hunter clip this year. He had a trace last year but was a real b*gger come spring time as he hates being groomed and holds onto his coat for ages (and I normally begin showing classes with him in April/May).

He lives out but has access to a stable in his field and is always well rugged. He normally comes out of winter looking well. This year I'm going to invest in a vest for him to replace lost fur :D

Full clip, head, legs etc. Just a little saddlepatch for him!

Cannot wait for Thurs (vet needed for sedation) but after a farm ride yesterday where he got extremely sweaty in 10 mins this is needed!

My mare will probably be having a Chaser Clip this year as last year she got a bit too sweaty (shes an arab so wasnt going to, but this year I may have to!!!).

Blanket clip for mine, as a tb never grows much of a winter coat but is one of these boys who sweats alot. Bonus is one clip lasts him all winter so that makes life easier. He has had a hunter clip before but that was more of an accident with the clippers but usually abide by only take off as much as is required.

My traditional coloured cob gelding will have a full clip (feathers and half head left on) as he's like a mammoth and sweats after 10 mins work :(

My cob x mare will have a full clip including legs (only half head left on) as she gets feather mites and doesnt suit feathers anyway :)

They are worked 5-6 days per week, are out all day but in at night all year round

Youngster will have a full clip but wil leave on the legs for the first 2 clips, then everything off for the last clip. My old mare will have an odd clip - half head and a high bib. I didn't want to take anything off her last year as she is 22 and feels the cold but she sweated so badly I ended up doing what looks like a large bib.

Have just taken the whole lot off, legs, head etc. She's one of life's 'warm' people and doesn't lose any condition over the winter. She's also very prone to mud-fever so taking her legs off ensures I can get them dry as quickly as possible which really helps. She has plenty of rugs to make sure she doesn't get cold and still only needs to be fed hi fi light and soaked hay!:D

I full clipped mine last week. All they have left is the hair below the knees (they are heavily feathered types). They are now far more comfortable in the heat we are having.

I normally hunter clip my two but do take off the saddle patch. They are young, they are in at night, I have rugs in four different weights so can make sure they are just the right temperature.

Whilst I don't always do a lot of work during the week in winter, I do ride late - rarely before 8 pm and need to have then cool, dry and back in their stable within 30 mins. If they were left hairy, they take hours to dry and cool off and I would not be home before midnight.

I had to clip Stinky when he was two and a half. When he was running round playing with Cairo in the evenings, he came in very hot and sweaty and so he had a trace clip which had to be redone as a high trace before he was comfortable.
