So now we know Buster is 100% ok to clip need to invest in clippers. Before anyone thinks we might has it up, OH used to clip his last OES but the clippers died.

I am thinking Andis???

Buster is a old english sheep dog and we let him get a coat length to about 3" and then shave him.

If you are keeping regularly on top of the coat, you could probably do with something like Moser Switchblades. They aren't terribly expensive, will fit most snap on blades, and are good for hobbyists and and as "spares" for a pro.

if you already have horse clippers they are fantastic on dogs. I used them on my scottie and my friend uses them on her collie. Saves paying out more for different clippers.

Yep, the Andis's are a better price than I thouight they would be. The Switchblades used to be about £110, but I guess they've gone up now. Not a bad price on the blade upgrade, so would suggest that. I agree with you about not using horse clippers as it's too short. In fact, going that short can result in follicle damage. So for an OES, if you wanted it short short I wouldnt go shorter than a 7F, but the 5F and 4F will leave a bit more fluff. 7F leaves about 3mm, 5F about 6mm, and a 4F about 8 or 10mm as I recall.
