What colour are liver chestnuts normally at birth?

Hi

I'm curious to know if liver chestnuts are normally born chestnut or if they are other colours.

I have a colt foal who was born bright bay but is now liver chestnut.

Also, what is the difference between brown and liver chestnut?

Everybody correct me if I'm wrong, but brown is a dark, almost black colouring, but lighter or 'mealy' around the nose and eyes. Liver chestnut is a dark, rich chestnut all over, including the mane

yes the colour brown is very dark almost black, a horse isnt classed as black if it has any white on it.
our foal at work was born very light chesnut like her mother and her new fur is liver chesnut and she is loosing her white socks

franks liver but def not brown

though his colour alters at diff times of year he is darkest when changing coat and looks normal chestnut in his winter fluff

this was a couple of weeks ago (he is dark atm!)

My foal is turning liver chestnut and he was born orange chestnut. Liver chestnut is distinguished from brown by lack of black points

Hmm, his white socks are coming back and they have black ermine marks and splashes on them, so he could be brown lol

I think that horses that are ver dark choc brown are in the brown/choc dun/liver chestnut category

I think he is going through baby fluff stages so you will have wait and see.

Frank is v like his dad who was a bit darker

We had a liver chestnut shettie at my old yard who was orange at birth, and got darker.

His mane and tail look black to me so I'd say he's dark bay. Liver chestnuts are born chestnut

His mane and tail are going brown, his tail also has a lot of light, almost grey hairs in it
