What colour are your carpets?

As a distraction from stressing about Fick (who isn't as good tonight as she was this morning) I seem to have suddenly had an outbreak of much-needed hoovering and dusting. As it's a rented bungalow I have classic magnolia walls and beige carpets, which show every bit of dirt, every mark and definitely every black greyhound hair that is helpfully moulted out! I am planning to replace the carpets, I've been here 5 years now and with 4 dogs shampooing and vacuming is losing its effect - but what colour should I choose?

Although laminate/lino/tiles are massively practical they would be a nightmare for the dogs, who slip over easily on that kind of flooring, so it does have to be carpet I think!
 
Beige with copper and brown flecks - it looks nicer than it sounds! Dog is a ginge, so it disguises his hair beautifully, and the odd muddy footprint!
 
i have green carpet with black and white hairs entwined in it :( i am going to change for either amtico, karndean or similar and will put rugs down if the dogs are slipping. it will be easier to take a rug to be cleaned rather than trying to keep the whole floor clean, which i am failing at as the carpet has been down for over 15 years..
 
I now realise I have made a major tactical error by having black, white and brindle dogs at the same time..... :D

I'm wondering about a darker/flecked beige rather than the pale beige I've got at the minute, I assume my landlady will agree as of course I will pay for it all myself
 
chocolate brown pretty much throughout, I don't have a dog, I don't recommend :p

I have a beigey/brown flecky one in the lounge that is definitely much better!
 
Flecky beige / brown ish. Lighter beige (bit of a theme going on here) and then dark pink.

None of them were picked as particularly dog proof but I would never dream of a cream carpet as that would look a nightmare within a fortnight with multiple dogs.

When I ever get around to papering the master bedroom, the new carpet in there will be grey I think which should be really muck proof :)
 
Mid-grey, so very neutral but doesn't show the dirt too badly. (ginger dog, dark bay pony and mud!!) It's a small cottage so carpeted the same colour throughout.
Along with creamy painted walls we find that it is also easy to change colours of sofa and rugs etc if wanted without having to re-do everything
 
None really - wood floors throughout with orange/red/cream patterned type rugs (hides both orange cat hair and white Dee dog hair fairly well). But from prior experience, biscuit carpet with a bit of a fleck looks good without obsessive cleaning and wears well. Some greyish carpets look good too but I don't find they wear as well. Also I find the weave makes a huge difference as well as the colour.

Could always go crazy with cork tiles though for a non slip low maintenance floor :p

Cork tiles and outdoor type rugs which can be hosed down here, plus turtle mats in doorways. Quite a few online sites for outdoor/washable/ patio rugs. I love how easy cleaning has become even after 'accidents'. No more strenuous hoovering or carpet cleaning sessions with the Bissel. A word of warning about cork tiles, it pays to buy the thicker sealed kinds from specialist suppliers (not the wafer thin B & Q ones).

We are mean, our dogs live in the kitchen, the snug and the back hall, which is basically where we live most of the time. I've got ceramic tiles that look like stone throughout and they were matched to Barney our late BT. He moulted like hell but with this flooring we never noticed. fortunately, Stanley isn't that different in colour either. We've got a rug in the snug and turtle mats in the back hall but unless I've got my glasses on tbh I really don't notice mud and hairs! I do still have my sense of smell though and I did find the carpets ponged which is why I went for a hard floor.
 
I have turtle mats by the back door, I actually think (tongue in cheek!) that I'm going to send back the latest rescue greyhound because the whole house seems to have been covered in a layer of black hair since he arrived :o Hmmm.... off to investigate cork tiles now.... :)
 
Light coloured carpets - dark show every hair. Main living area is tiles - again light coloured. A few years ago I brought 2 rugs, same pattern, one was light and one was dark. The dark coloured rug was a nightmare to keep looking good, the light coloured, although hairy, looked good all the time
 
We admitted defeat,pulled up the carpets,in three rooms and at eye watering expense installed underfloor heating under tiles.Warm and washable,last winter was the first one that all of us felt truly warm.Each dog has their "own" tile that they prefer to lie on.
 
Quarry tiles, lived here 20 years and they have been indestructible and show no dirt as each tile is a slightly different shade.

We have seagrass rugs down at 3m X 2m, so big enough that the dogs always have somewhere to lie down, but at under £300 each we can ditch and start again with no fuss or fitting.

What with those and leather sofas with washable Rambo fleeces, the room can be de-doggedquite easily.

We have laminate throughout except the bedroom which has a chocolatey brown carpet. I have dark coloured dogs except for hubby’s retired collie bitch and her white hairs show up the most.

Ours is a tied cottage to hubby’s job and it’s scheduled to be renovated soon after 17 years here (hoorah!) bit sadly we don’t get a choice in how it’s done but we’ve been told it will be new flooring (prob laminate) throughout so I’ll buy some big rugs to make it less slidey for the dogs.

In my own cottage (which I own but let out to holidaymakers) there’s a cream hard wearing carpet with flecks of other colours in throughout and I’m actually amazed at how well it copes with dogs.

No carpets where dogs go (downstairs!), either engineered wood or limestone tiles.

I do have a big patterned rug in the living room, various shades of beige with hints of other colours and if an oriental style. Seems to blend in hair quite well!

If you are going for carpets /rugs then invest in a rubber broom - they are a revaluation - I sweep my rug and it is FAR more effective than the vacuum cleaner
 
Oh...... you really are all telling me carpets aren’t a good idea aren’t you.... eeeek!

Don’t know what to do now lol, I’ve never not had carpets! Well apart from one house where the previous owners had exposed all the original floorboards, all I can remember is that the hounds sounded like elephants whenever they walked around 😂
 
Flotex is great, our back hall and cloakroom was laid in 1963 by my MIL and it it still fine. :-) It is impervious to everything - except fire. :-)
Probably too expensive for a rental though.
The front part of the house has cream carpets, with many a puppy widdle, coffee or wine stain...I barely notice. We have rugs that were bought over by Great Great Grandpa in the 1800's from Persia after he went on an adventure and they are so worn out anyone else would bin them, they just add to our general ambience of grubby neglect. :-)
 
Mine is a sort of muddy brown marl! It does still show the hair but not the inevitable dirty footprints, you can also use bleach on it so it is fairly dog friendly. I have quarry tiles in the kitchen which are easy to mop but the hair drifts round on it like tumbleweed.
