Hi,
I'd like to show my mare this year in riding horse classes, so would like to get a nice browband for her. But I am stuck as to what colours would be best to go for. She is a fleabitten grey (pretty much white), with a white tail and a v pale grey salt'n'pepper mane.
Thank for your help! Just want her to look pretty!

greys are pretty easy to put browbands on as they generally look good in pretty much anything!

My friends has a green gold and white one, and a red blue gold and white one for her grey mare and they both look beautiful on her! (I think she uses the green one if showing in a tweed jacket and the red blue gold etc if showing in a black jacket, so depending on the class)

Do you have nay pictures of her as this can help decide on colours :)

Greys also looks nice in gold/silver/cream combinations as well but I personally prefer them with bold colours with gold/silver/cream as an added detail colour... personally

A good way to work it out is to go to a habidashary shop and buy small lengths of ribbons in colours you'd like to tone into your own outfit, then take them to the yard and put them against your mare to get an idea of what will suit her.

Personally I quite like a dark colour/bold colour/metallic shine against a grey - the classic example would be navy, scarlet and gold. Grey's are a blank canvas though, so you can really let your personality show with it :)

that's fab, thanks for all the help!
This is my beautiful girl (if the link works!)

Sorry to sound cheeky but how tall is she? she looks almost like a hunter from that picture!!

I think green based would look gorgeous on her!

oh dear, should I have a go at hunter with her then? No idea about this sort of stuff - just thought it would be fun to try some different stuff with her!
She is 15.3, but appears a bit bigger as she is a little bum high (she is 8 so I have given up hope of her leveling up!).
this is a pic of her stood up, though she is better muscled now which helps discuise her back looking a touch bit long!

Nope you are right, riding horse type!

Just in her head shot I was like WOW she is a hunter!
but at 15.3hh and that side on shot. She is a riding horse! (sorry! :) )

So ye, go for a nice pretty browband!!!

You decided on a colour yet?

hi elliepippa,
I'm in north glos, near broadway.

Sometimes I reckon she is hunter, and other times riding horse! She is typical irish with shorter cannons and super sholders, but I think she is a little short for a hunter - but then she is 1 inch too big for small riding horse, so she will be tichy in large riding horse! Should just have her shoes off then do small riding horse!

thanks for all the colour suggestions, and def tempted by a bit of gold or silver! Think I will go for blue or green with that. Though I shall be in blue jacket and blue hat so might be a bit of a blue overload? Have just had a bit of a google and some of the green ones look super smart - might have to go with that!

ahh balls just a bit of a google and no it is 15.2hh..........

However, if you felt like being cheeky tbh the number of people that must take 15.3hh horses into small riding horse classes must be uncountable!!! so I am sure you would be fine taking her ! (yes ok I shouldnt condone it, but ...... well Im not, but Im just saying it happens and I am sure it wouldnt be "frowned upon" to much at local level etc.) **waits to get abused**

Also I think she would look stunning in green and gold combo!! If you are wearing blue and blue though blue might look nice!

yeah, the height thing is tricky! I'm sure if I took her in large riding horse, there would be small riding horses larger than her. Though if I took her in small riding horse, then I think I would be waiting the whole time for someone to hawl me out on my ear!
Am loving this browband - then I don't have to decide between green and blue!

ye that is a lovely one, and you can choose the tail style, the head style of the rosette and eveyrthing on there I really like that website for browbands due to the massive choice! and were good for posting them to me in time!

Ye your in a sort of stuck between a rock and hard place situation on the height......... although for your piece of mind id maybe go in large riding horse, and hope she shows herself off well enough and at the end ask the judge which of the 2 classes she feels your mare would be better suited to! (unelss you win in which case its pretty obvious! :) )

If she is only 15.3 I would stick her into the smalls... because she has shoes on!
1" is allowed for shoes if i remember correctly :)

I did wonder about the shoes thing. Ages ago I'm sure I recall more being allowed for the shoes that their height really is, that would be a handy rule to use.
Some of the large riding horses are massive (ahem, and often a little fat), so I worry she would shrink into small fluffy pony mode!
That website seems to be really fab, love that you can search by colour, so many options too!

If she is 15.3 with shoes on then I think you would have a good chance of getting her measured in at 15.2. As for colours, the one you linked to is lovely!
