Next week i'm going to go to a show with the pony i ride. it's very local WH and dressage. I'm hopefully going to be wearing a brown hacking jacket and beige jods, black short boots, black gloves, black whip and black hat cover. Do you think black chaps or brown leather would be best?

How old are you? If you are *I think* under 16 you just wear the short boots, if you are over then technically you need long black boots.

As it's just local you can probably get away with black chaps, preferably gaiters if you have them.

Good luck :)

Yep, regardless of the colour of jacket/ tack/ etc, your joddie boots and gaiters / chaps should always match.

Good luck - let us know how you get on!

Oh, yes, I didnt think of this. If you are under 16 then just short boots - no chaps / gaiters. If you get some joddie clips to go underneath your boots to keep your jods down that would be good too - these are cheap at most tack shops.

I'm 13, i would just wear short boots but i wear spurs and my joddy clips have broken plus sometimes the stirrup leather pinces my leg without chaps. i think i look stupid in just short boots though lol. i also have black long boots but they're not very good quality and look a bit messy and if my stirrup slips back it can get caught behind the spur buckle, dangerous and not very helpful in the middle of your WH jumping or dressage test!! I prefer chaps too.

i'll do a post about it after, complete with pics :)

At 13 I doubt you will be allowed to wear spurs - most RC rules are that spurs cannot be worn by U16's.

At 13, wear the joddie boots (preferably brown) but black will do if its all you have, with joddie clips.

i usually compete with spurs (i do need them unless i want to crawl along at 1 mph lol!!) and i've never seen no spurs for under 16's. it doesn't say on the website if you can't wear chaps/gaiters/long boots if under 16 so i think you can. i'll take joddy clips just in case and hope they don't fall off if i need them :P

Spurs are not allowed in ANY pony showing classes, that includes WHP. The only classes you can wear spurs in are the Horse classes and then the rider has to be over 15 years old.

I have seen no spur rules at RC's, it is in all the affiliated societies rule books and I have seen several people asked to leave the ring because they were wearing spurs (i.e the judge refused to judge them)

If your stirrup leathers pinch (mine always do!) then wear long socks under your jodhs. You will be much more comfortable.
