What colour Hi Viz do you go for?

I want to get a new exercise sheet thats hi vis. I have a bright orange weather beeta one that goes on his back before the saddle which I don't like as he's so sensitive and needs a fluffy numnah on first. I do like the ones that strap over the top of the saddle which Uhlan do and considering getting, just not quite sure on colour! He's skewbald. I've read orange is the best to be seen.

I wear mainly pink (I do have some yellow and orange bits I sometimes use) and always get comments on how visible I am, so it works for us.

I think the most visible colour also depends on your environment - yellow in the summer in a lot of trees or near rape fields blends in IMHO.

I've heard about Yellow in the summer aswell! I have a pink neckstrap and coat, a yellow hat band and a yellow tabard when i wear that instead of a coat so I'm a bit mix and match too!

Orange for me, yellow doesn't stand out if your in rape and I don't believe pink meets the bs standards (at least it didn't years ago)

Orange all the way here, it works for the police heli to see us most days, dog walkers comment they 'couldn't not see us' on the heath or in woodland (pine forests and the broadleaved areas too). Works well all year round.

I agree it depends on your environment. We don’t have trees, hedges or rape so yellow really stands out here but I understand it’s harder to see south.

Orange jacket so bright it hurts my eyes. Have pink rug which is waterproof, posh thick Thermatex lined yellow and a mesh summer one which is multi colour. Also have multi colour breast plate and boot covers. Depends on time of year and where we are going. Also have yellow hat cover. Have an orange mesh ear cover but not found a hi viz one that isn’t a bit plastic. Do have a tail cover which is hi viz but only used that a couple of times.

one of mine is in pink the other yellow and orange. One thing don't touch Equisafety now their sizes are bonkers now

Orange is apparently the best to be seen. I have all yellow. Scotland is usually grey and dull so anything is pretty bright up here! I have a soft pink jacket, I don't know if it's bright but it has lots of silver reflective strips so as long as they catch any headlights then that matters too.

It always makes me smile when people say something like you’re really bright or couldn’t miss you. I feel like saying that’s the idea….. it is nice though that people take the time to say that.

May depend where you are riding, but brilliant orange is mandatory for use during bear / deer / duck etc hunting season in USA, because it’s proven the most visible and safe in the countryside. Railway workers use it too, dealing with excessive speeds.
Might be as well to attach some Velcro or other fastenings to your fluffy saddlecloth, cut down and attach the same on your fluoro sheet, so you can use the hi vis as and when you want?

I've got an orange long sleeve and short sleeve vest, a yellow/mercury exercise sheet with chest band, a pink neck band with LEDs, a pink running vest with red/white LEDs, a hi-viz orange Pioneer Endurance bridle, an orange mesh exercise sheet, leg wraps...

I don't wear it all at once, of course, but I do mix up the colours.

I wore a yellow hi vis jacket. The horse wore a bright pink ear veil, not hi vis.
The motorist who stopped and spoke to me said they saw the pink first!

Railway workers use orange because if they wore yellow they'd blend in with trees/grass in their surroundings too much.

Yellow is actually the highest in colour visibility for daylight but is hard to see in bright sunlight. It performs better indoors. On construction sites as most trades work internally yellow is the preferred colour. Class 3 is the best hi viz to buy as it stands out more with more reflective bands (or at least thats how it works on construction sites), with class 1 being the least.

Banksmen (people who direct lorries and plant on site) and slinger/signallers (who signal to the crane driver and know how the load should be slung and prepare it for lifting operations) always wear orange because they are visible from the crane drivers vantage point really high in the air. Same scenario when lorry drivers reverse massive lorries through a site (reversing in is safer then reversing out). In fact some contractors I've worked with insist that no one but banksmen and slingers wear orange, I had to tell new operatives when I carried out in inductions, which didn't go down very well when they came to site kitted out in orange and had to replace at great cost!

I am going to keep my yellow hi viz exercise sheet with my lights but buy an orange hi viz jacket I think as the experts reckon mixing orange and yellows are better. Where I used to ride were a lot of leafy overhanging trees in lanes, so it was quite hard on a sunny day to see hi viz so I used my lights and flashing leg bands too.

I mix. She has an orange exercise sheet, and I have a pink high Vis coat. We also have a yellow light up neck strap and yellow ears. She’s like a blooming Christmas tree!

I never think the pink ones look very bright personally. I’ve always used mostly yellow and it worked really well on my bay, but I think mixing in some orange is a good idea too. One issue with yellow is it quickly gets dirty.

Orange here, as its the most visible in our leafy lanes.
I have a builders polo shirt, which has reflective strips on it, for summer, and a builders padded jacket for winter.
Realised the other day that the jacket would be very useful if I ever decided to diversify and become a burglar, as it does this on cctv!

I forgot to add, I also mix mercury in (a lot of Mercury if hacking in the dark to be fair) and will wear lights on both pony & I if dark or if visibility isn't brilliant - I won't go out if geniunely unsafe and don't have to go near a road if I don't want to but I always want something that is seen at all times, 'just in case' so lights are brilliant for that.

Often people have commented how visible my brightly coloured but not high viz bridle is too, I guess it's an unnatural colour against nature
