My friend and I never hack out without hi-viz :). But, on more than 1 occasion we have been told by drivers that they can't see us? :roll eyes: despite wearing hat bands and modern tabards. We are going to add some leg bands to the horses.
I am now thinking of changing my hi-viz colour from yellow to orange? Do u think that will make any difference?

I've always been told the fluorescent yellow has the best visibility in dark! Apparently the pinks/violets have the worst out of them.. No idea about orange! But I've always stuck with yellow for this reason. xx

I agree with the polite range, does seem to make more people slow down. I always think yellow stands out more in gloomy conditions and pink stands out more in bright conditions

If drivers are having trouble seeing you and you already wear hi-viz, then I would suggest a rug for your horse rather than leg bands. As they are so big, they are very visable. :D

I have this V-bandz mesh one in yellow and it's very eye catching.

V-bandz also do a waterproof version and a 360 version. :)

If you are riding past oil seed rape fields, then it would be better to go for pink. ;)

Yellow hi-viz can get 'lost' in bright sunshine especially against a green background of hedges/fields/trees etc.

Orange is definitely the best colour - railway staff use orange.

I have yellow at the moment, but will be switching to orange.

I always wear the working mens t-shirt in orange but my horses wears yellow chest band and yellow brushing boots . I think its just down to preference, but if i cant be seen in orange at least my horse will be seen in yellow.

Would defo stick to yellow, as this shows up easiest in darker conditions :) hat bands are good, as are the leg bands and tail wraps - you can even get flashing ones!! Just think the more hi-viz the better! :D

I wear a mix of colours as on a hack we go through different areas - we go up a residential road, down a leafy lane and past fields as well as by the side of a motorway so we need to stand out against different backgrounds. I have a green fluro/reflective waistcoat for daytime, yellow reflective waistcoat with red flashing lights for night, yellow necklace for pony, pink front boots for pony, yellow back boots for pony and in winter and on dark or rainy days a yellow exercise sheet.
This thread has reminded me to order a polite waistcoat - what a great idea.

I've noticed a difference wearing pink as opposed to yellow in bright sunshine.
And yellow shows up better if its cloudy.

If I'm hacking out with mum she and her ride wear yellow, me and L wear pink, both bases are covered then!

I think it's best to have a mixture of different colours.

I have this tabard:

this yellow hat band

and my horse wears one of these in orange:

He also wears yellow leg bands and I want to get a yellow v-bandz mesh quarter sheet. The orange fly veil is really bright and I get lots of comments about it when we're out hacking.
