sorry guys have trawled the internet and asked every one i could but can't get a definitive answer... your thoughts please? He is passported as bright bay (flax mane and tail!?) with 2 white hind socks to the knee (!!??) I have had his passport / microchip verified!

I would just say he's a chestnut. I'm sure someone has a posh, partly made up colour for him though :D x

I'd get his passport re-done, well the part that the vet does his markings at least if it doesnt match up xx

I would have said chestnut but he has the black tips to his ears of a bay. He does appear to have the sabino gene but does he have enough white to be skewbald? I'm sure someone will say!
 
DNA testing is cheap.

Do you know his breeding but I'd put money on him being a bay with the silver modifier. He also shows sabino.
 
My chestnut roan when i was young was very much chestnut with flaxen mane and tail, white socks, but had black tips on her ears, think she was just an in-bred knock back tbh. Like people, horses have faults and pigment colouration (is that a word?! lol) x Think my pony was just a mixture! x
