Hi, i've asked this question to many people and on another forum and get the reply 'grey' which in all fairness she looks. She's registered as Black Roan - Is there such colour? I've hear of blue/red roan etc. but not black. Her dam is registered as blue roan off the top of my head and her sire is a grey.
So... What do you all think?

Winter:

(please excuse her awful condition - this was when I first got her as a yearling - brought her off old YO who brought her off the meat mans lorry!)

Spring (this year - Aged 3):

And Right Now:

In winter she goes very dark and her legs are completely black right up to her body (apart from her socks) and in summer her legs match the rest of her body. Her body is flecked in white and black hairs.
Maybe it's really obvious and she really is just grey but I can't help doubting whenever I look at her! Either way I imagine she'll completely grey out of whatever colour she is because of her sire!

Thanks!

If she was mine I would just be describing her as grey (and there's a dozen different shades of that to choose from) not a blue roan. The blue roans I have had have all had permanently dark faces and legs.

I have never heard of a black roan, not to say that there isn't, is it a local term perhaps? I thought 'blue' was the term for a 'black' roan, as opposed to strawberry or bay, although I have heard 'red roan' used to describe both of those. :confused:http://www.mustangs4us.com/Horse Colors/roan.htm

Whatever colour she is, she looks a useful little type. I could do with a dozen of her here, there aren't enough decent, small ponies to be had.

I've got a very similar pony. On her passport it says bay roan, turning grey! She was nearly black with a white mane and tail when we got her age 4, now just turned 8 and is a definate dapple, getting lighter every year. I expect she will be white when she's 15!

I would have said Blue roan had it not been for her face the same colour as her body - blue roans should have a dark head. So, therefore she is grey and being young will get whiter as time goes on?

Yep - I'd say grey too - and a lovely little lady she is too! :o)

Hi all! Thanks for all the replies! It's great to hear everyone's differing opinions.

SirenaXVI - No need to say sorry about her turning grey - She'd be gorgeous whatever colour - I am biased though!

And thankyou Enfys - the amount of comments I get about her not being 'right' and 'she's been here before' because she's so bombproof. She's just been broken and I could put the youngest most inexperienced child on her and she wouldn't put a foot wrong!

You may be biased but she is a lovely little thing:) I have 4 greys btw:D

grey..... she's just one of those greys with darker points rather than lighter ones, so they'll probably be last to go white I imagine...
Roan doesn't tend to fade out, and she doesn't have the typical dark head a roan would have
