What colour is this horse?

Looks like a poor colour example of a Haflinger :D

I would've said chestnut, but looking through the 100% accurate wikipedia, looks like maybe it could be a palomino. He looks 'dirty' which I don't think you would necessarily get with a chestnut.

Think he's quite jolly :)

It would never have occurred to me he was anything other than palomino!
But then I'm not particularly interested in colour genetics tbh.
To me he is palomino

What the heck is a sooty palomino??

To me it is a chestnut with flaxen mane and tail (it doesn't even look like the mane and tail is white). Like a haffy.

Sooty palomino. :)

H08 - Sooty adds black pigment, often it causes dapples too and it can be seen on both black and chestnut based colours.

Here is an example of a sooty buckskin.

This horse is a sooty palomino - it's the darkest one I've seen.

This is a more typical example of a sooty palomino.

But surely this sooty palomino colour would never get registered with the palomino society? They used to have stringent rules on shade and colours when I had one, and any more than 10% of black hair in the mane or tail was a no no! nor were dapples.

Times have changed now they can dna test, years ago we had a sec b that was similar in colour to the one in the ad, it was registered as a cream, possibly incorrect now but it certainly was not accepted as a palomino at that time, if you go back through Welsh pony breeding there are numerous creams that would probably now be called sooty palomino or whatever, the change from dun to buckskin is much the same, what the palomino society do I have no idea but it must be difficult with all the changes.
The dark one on faracats link does not even appear to have any palomino in its coat but genetically it must be one, it is all too confusing, it was much more simple in the old days!!!
