I'd be inclined to say Skewbald purely because of the white patches- the one on belly and (withers?)

I'd probably go for "Heniz 57" colour though Unique

I think I've read somewhere that to classify as a skewblad the pony has to have a minimum area of white for it's patches? It was in PONY magazine last year sometime, maybe if you went on the CHAPS website or something similar it would tell you exactly?

Lol, to some comments Have entered in small local shows in coloured classes before, we came 3rd out of about 8. Think the judge just liked him though. Carpet colour is just not cutting it anymore, might just choose a different colour to suit my mood each time someone asks.

Disregarding that white patch on his lower belly,I would say he is bay roan. He looks part Shire/Clydesdale due to the high white stockings and sometimes Shires and Clydesdales have a few white marks on their belly but aren't strictly classed as coloureds??

I suspect he will go darker in winter and more dappled in summer? I had a Shirex mare that went like this.

He is also known as carpet colour by a couple of friends

Thanks he's the best and I wouldn't part with him for the world. I was very lucky I had him on part loan then his owner who had become a really good friend sold him to me. There were a few people that wanted him and have still had the odd person ask if I would consider selling or loaning him. He's 14'2. He's an Irish Cob/ heinz 57. Yes he does go darker in the winter and more dappled in summer.

Apparently bspa are accepting sabino Clydesdale, of which he looks to be a cross. Check their information booklet.

Sabino is a pattern that comes in many forms. In its minimal form, it only manifests itself as small socks and a star or blaze, if that. More extreme sabinos will have white patches, often with roaned edges, creeeping up their sides from the underside of the belly. The most extreme sabinos will look entirely white or nearly so, often retaining a few patches of color along their toplines, particularly on the ears or in the mane.

Have a good look around that site, it's very good and has photo examples of the colours/patterns.

I think in that pic his head/neck detract from his possible bucksiness.. being darker than the rest of him.

There is a shade of colouring here termed "Dunskin" which is both dun and buckskin! Covering all angles rather.

Again, here, he would be termed a minimal overo as he has no white over his topline, but that white patch is over 2" in diameter. I believe it has to be 6" for CHAPS registry and above stifle height, but don't take my word for it.

Is he fully clipped in this photo? My bay cob used to go a very different (light sandy) colour when clipped.
Do you have a unclipped photo of him?
Does he have a dorsal stripe? If not then dun can be ruled out.
I would say bay or buckskin sabino/minimal splashed white but I am in no means a colour expert lol lovely ponio you have x
