What colour is this?

Liver chestnut.

Possibly flaxen and sabino (the jagged edges to the socks/stockings show that he definitely has sabino) to make the mane and tail so pale.

Black silver dapple.

Can't be as silver only affects black horses and a palomino + a liver chestnut cannot produce a black foal as they are both only have chestnut genes to pass on.

Of course, that is assuming that the palomino sire is actually a palomino. I really don't understand why it's wrongly identified so often.

I don't know about his colouring but what I do know is that he shouldn't be a stallion, but sadly some 'breeders' are so easily swayed by pretty colours

The Sire Romeo is Palomino and is quiet a famous Cob stallion.. Cobs like him that are a solid colour with white legs are called Blagdon (I work with cobs and all the old men I know would call him that). But I think that term covers alot of different shades

Not blagdon - that is the type of sabino mottling from the bottom up that you see in Clydesdales.
He can't be a silver with a palomino & chestnut parent. Myy guess is he is a liver chestnut with flaxen as sometimes occurs in Haflingers.

I agree he should be a gelding.

Don't know what you would call the colour but I do know its a stunning combination. Still shouldn't be a stallion though..

I'm not sure really except to say that it is a stunningly beautiful colour. Imagine that colouring on an Arab........gorgeous!

Liver Chestnut.

I have just been looking at this colour as my new little filly is looking like she is going to be a dark chestnut, I understand they are often described as dark chocolate colour, often with flaxen mane and tail.

i didnt realise Liver chesnut could be matched with such a light coloured mane and tail, but i guess normal chesnut has flaxen so why not liver chesnut too.

He is a very striking colour but I must admit the colour is the only thing i like about him!!

I think he's a handy sort of pony, looks fun, and would be very flashy in cart.

To me he is a dark palomino. Only colour testing will prove it one way or another

I would be really, really, REALLY shocked if he had the cream gene.

Strictly speaking, liver chestnut. Often called chocolate palomino as it seems more exotic and seems to highlight the greater disparity in colour between mane and coat.
Horrible. I hate it when flaxen chestnuts are called 'palominos' (eg Haffies). If it doesn't have the cream gene - it's not a pally.

When I looked at Enfys' chocolate palomino link, there were a fair few silver bays (some were Rocky Mountain horses) on it, which aren't palomino at all - they aren't even a chestnut based colour!

I think that chocolate palomino is joining my list of colour misnomers. ;)

This is St Clarins, does he 'look' the same sort of colour? DNA tested chocolate silver dapple ...

That's very interesting Enfys. :)

His sire is the famous palomino stallion Romeo, he is out of a liver chestnut mare so is sure to breed quality.

Maybe the liver chestnut dam is actually a silver bay?

This is the image that came up when I searched for the sire (hopefully this is the right Romeo) and he's definitely a pally.

We should ask them to DNA the horse. Just a simple base colour test would help. :p
