No doubt the genetic experts will be able to help, but from breeding experience my chestnuts with the grey in their manes and tails stay chestnut and the manes/tails always have the grey/silver in them. One of my mares has four white socks that have extended up her legs with roaning over the years. In the summer below the knees is strawberry roan blending into her white socks.

Not silver bay due to the white socks. I would say either stay the same or strawberry roan! I am no expert however :-)

Only thing I can say he isn't is chestnut as they don't have black pigment. Are there any signs he might turn grey? My guess is silver bay. I had a silver bay with white socks but much less silver in his mane and tail.

What happened to good old fashioned colours..... never ever heard of Silver bay.......

I reckon he is going to be Purple!!! :)

Never heard of Silver Bay either, glad I am not the only one! (Anyone care to enlighten me on this colour?)

Not quite purple perhaps, maybe more blue???!!!

My sister had a section C foal with all the black hairs running through his mane, looked very odd. This is him as a baby

Liver chestnut can look very dark brown, almost black but the 'black' hairs will not really be black, if you know what I mean.

he doesnt look like he will grey out to me? there is a chesnut on the sires side i believe a couple of generations back. A few people have told me they have chestnuts with dark hairs in their mane/tail now, so are you sure that means he cant be chestnut:confused:

Liver chestnuts can have dark hairs in their manes and tails, just not black hairs.
