what colour shirt and tie for m+m showing?

Hello, am looking to show my sec A yearling in a few weeks at a fairly big show, but not county level. Im new to the showing world, have seen a nice Navy blue faint pinstripe waistcoat suit i like so hope this would be suitable? Pony is chestnut with 4 whites. i was thinking maybe a lemon coloured shirt to wear with it but not sure what colour tie, Any suggestions??
Also would my navy blue mucker boots be ok to show in as they will hardly be seen under the trousers?

If this is a big show, then you would be better in a tweed jacket and I would go for a green based one if you are showing a chesnut.

Shirt and tie - any colour other than white, but alot of M&M folks seem to like a fairly bright yellow and a fairly flashy tie - often in red.

If you don't have a jacket, I would wear a tweed based or other wool based waistcoat, but not a navy one, and really not a pin stripped one, but look for a green fairly dark one, racing green, or brown - any colour from dark brown to rust orange would look nice with a chesnut.

Blue muckers - sorry but I would only use them if there really was nothing else, ie I had forgotten to pack my boots. You can use any sort of good walking boot or jodphur boots. Brown or black is acceptable but get something with good grip as you don't slip as you run.

Make sure you have brown gloves and a cane, hair is very neat, ie in a bun if long.

Sorry if I sound rude, but this is an honest opinon - it is a small local, then you would maybe get away the boots etc.

Finally, do make sure you have some sort of hat, first it finishes the picture, and some classes insist on hard hats in youngstock so do check the schedule. If they do not, a trilby or a flat cap can look smart with a tweed jacket/waistcoat. I have a very old riding hat, the one with elastic, which looks very smart in hand as it has no harness and was many times cheaper than a beagler.

I normally use a jacket but on very hot days, I do have a nice waistcoat to use, plus this can be used under my jacket on very cold days.

Many thanks for your help theresa, ive taken note of a lot of things and now desperately looking for things i need on ebay. If i look for a greenish waistcoat or tweed style one, what colour trousers would go best with this? Thankyou

I'd go for brown, white shirt. Keep it clean and simple to completment your pony as he really is the one on show, stripes and mucker boots are no!no! as that really says look at me not at the pony and I really don't care what we look like. You have to blend in with the pony as He is the one you are showing.

Sadly the standard of turnout for people showing welsh ponies has gone seriously downhill in some (not all) cases. Nothing irritates me more than people in jeans and trainers, or tight trousers.

However, as you are prepared to make the effort and buy stuff you may aswell get it right!

Trousers, shirt, tie and waistcoat or jacket are acceptable. Brown or black boots. Preferably a hat as described above.

I woulnd't wear a white shirt but cream, lemon or blue will all be fine. Cream being a very safe option. I like a nice coloured tie. Tweed jacket or natural coloured waistcoat though you can also get a nice kind of check one too.

Gloves and cane are a must - brown.

thanks everyone, if i go for tweed waistcoat and lemon shirt then with red tie what colour bottoms would be best, pony has chestnut legs with white socks.
