So torn what colour saddle to get my mare.
Black brown or Havana, I do love Havana I can’t lie but not sure if black is better?

Would love to see pictures of peoples black horses with tack x

Havana is a very specific colour, it has red in it, dark Havana is a little more neutral, but much of the current leather used these days isnt really Havana.

I like very dark neutral brown on black and piebald horses, it generally matches the coat whereas black leather makes the coat look browner and can wear less well, going green or grey over time.

In the UK I'd say maybe 10% are in black, even some at the very top levels. I think brown is always correct but a few black and piebalds will be in black tack. I object on a grey though 😄, no need (show ring, no judgement otherwise honestly 😁).

My black mare has a black dressage saddle and bridle which I use for schooling, and a Havana GP and bridle which I use for hacking. I have to say I prefer her in the black tack.

I have no idea if this is correct, but I was once told that brown leather tends to be better quality leather because they can hide flaws in the leather more effectively with the black dye.

I have a random mix of black and various shades of brown. I don't show :)

Historically yes. Black for harness, brown and tan for saddles and bridles and the paler the tan the more sure you could be there were no blemishes, so it was posh!

Black. Having said that I do have a black dressage saddle that's now got a green tinge - not noticeable when my bum's on it though

I would only put black on a very dark, almost light-absorbing black horse. If the horse has sun bleaching then black tack will come up blacker than the horse so I'd go with dark Havana or Havana.
She’s pretty black.
She’s only a youngster, so it’s my first time buying her tack so I got nothing to go against you know.
Expensive mistake to make isn’t it haha, although I know I’m away over thinking it x

Ah well if she's a youngster then I'd caution not too put too much work into the colour of her tack!

My last youngster changed saddles four times and bridles three times before she was six 🤣 she's in black tack at the moment because it was the only saddle that really worked for her, even though I was absolutely set on brown tack.

Oh god really, I was really hopeful that I’d get away with buying an adjustable saddle and it lasting us haha. How naive of me

I'm not a huge fan of this for everyday but it does a great job of blackening up my old black saddle when it fades and only needs using very occasionally.
