what colour to paint stable doors?

pretty please can you share pics of your painted doors?

We have an L shaped yard right next to the house with 4 boxes in a stone steading. The stables doors are just a treated/varnish finish but Im fancying painting them - any ideas on colour?
 
What colour would match the house?

PS having had painted doors, and now woodstain ones the woodstain ones look smarter for longer and are easier for amateurs to re-do. (apols if you are, or have a pet painter)
 
the steading is traditional grey stonework, granite i think.

catkin my first plan was for woodstained ones but it all went wrong. We paid someone we knew to make and fit these doors and they were supposed to be treated wood. Long story short it all went a bit wrong and the wood used wasn’t what we were told and all went black and mouldy very very quickly. We got advice and let it all dry out and then stained it all but you can see the black through 3 coats and it really spoils it and annoys me :(

Would painting them cream be insane?!
 
I still vote dark green, especially with granite grey. I think, as well as not being a practical colour, cream wouldn't look right with the grey...

For practical reasons I think you are best with a deep, dark colour. A burgundy might be nice. But could clash with chestnut horses! Or a navy/midnight blue would be nice with the granite.
 
If you're painting over over wood that has been stained you'll need to paint it with a stain block first or the wood stain will come through whatever you paint on top, guess how I found this out! This is usually white so in theory you would be able to paint them cream. Has the house got any paintwork outside could you match it to that colour?
 
Where I keep my horse the doors are painted green and it’s the estates signature colour. It looks quite tasteful and shows less dirt than white or cream would.
