I picked out a gorgeous foal 2 months old and she was chestnut. I was told she would stay chestnut. The breeder looked at the roots of her mane to determine this. At 6 months old she was a darker colour chestnut, i thought due to the winter coat. But she is now 10 months old and her winter coat is shedding and shes even darker. Her face is very dark brown, and her legs below the knee are nearly black, and her body is dark brown with a hint of red.
I cant believe she will stay chestnut, i think she will be a dark bay, but just wondered what you all thought.

The Dam was Grey (not dapple just plain) and the Sire was Black with a hint of bay around his face with a white stripe.

thanks

My 2 yr old was bright chestnut when he was born and got darker and darker,he is really dark liver chestnut now but he is slowly greying out. Very hard to believe but it is true! The arab horse society do dna on fur and his passport says grey. He is the dark one in the pic.

WOW !! so in theory as the Dam was grey she could grey out, its very interesting hearing your stories, and im very excited to see what colour she does end up to be. I believe and from the horses I have seen at the yard that were bred by the same Sire - the prominent colours do seem to be Bay and chestnut.
Someone oce said to me as well, that you can tell by the colour of their eyebrows, so i will have a look at hers today, from memory im sure its a bay colour :-)
