Before I start, I don't mean to offend anyone or imply that any colour is better than another, but I have been window shopping for a pony for my daughter (when I can sell the 13.2!!!) and there are certain colours that I couldn't bring myself to go and see, even if the pony was perfect in every other way. I know the saying "a good horse is never a bad colour" and also that everyone has a favourite (I always knew I would have a dapple grey gelding and ended up with a bay mare!!

) and just wondered what colour would put you off from even viewing. I find horses with wall eyes really freaky and I know some people love them but I just couldn't buy one. For that reason (and because I couldn't face trying to keep them clean

) I wouldn't look at cremellos. What would be your no go colour?

cremello ( sp) would be a no no for me as I think they are a bit freaky. I would only view a bay, chestnut or nicely marker skewbald but if I knew or was told of a fab horse of another colour I would go see.

Also if you are buying with a view to selling later I would stick with a ' safe' colour.

If you look in my field I have 3 bay mares & 1 palomino pony.

I wouldn't buy a grey or a coloured, just don't like them at all however well bred or fashionable they are. Colour shouldn't matter but you have to like what you're looking at and if we all liked the same wouldn't it be a boring world.

I wouldn't go and look at a plain bay or a grey to be honest but I have had a fab (quite ugly) brown pony on loan.

I have always been attracted to different coloured horses - my first bought pony was red and white, i now have a golden dun. I would quite like a dun/white or something else unusual. Both the coloured ones I have/had have been fantastic. I did and still do ahve a 14.2hh vey flash looking bright bay i got when i was 16. However, he is rather a lunatic and has never been consistent in his behaviour (v v erratic).

I do like horses with white on them though whether it be socks/blaze, that sort of thing. Plain coloured horses are not for me. I like the look of greys too but they look like far too much like hard work to keep clean!

There are colours I'm not so keen on (cremello and palamino come to mind) but if everything else about the horse suited me I wouldn't let the colour put me off.

Also, cremello and horses with white faces - ones that go right over their eyes.
Not keen at all on wall eyes - but prob would not put me off an ab fab horse.

But i am glad there are peeps out there that love them and good job everyone is different!!

I have a bay TB with a little star, a Chestnut TB with a blaze, a Skewbald TBx (classy markings) with a blaze and a grey New Forest.

I'd never look at a grey coz a tarot card medium dude said that I need to look out for a white horse that would cause me an accident on the roads. Probably a load of cowpoo but you never know!

Personally would not have a grey and am not keen on light colours in general.

I love my coloureds, but again don't like them with nearly all white, ideally a 50 - 50. Chancer is nearly perfect - about 50 - 50 and has a black tail, forelock and just two white streaks in his mane.

No - colour wouldn't put me off. The best horse that I have had wasa chestnut TB mare (when I had gone to look for a section D). She was an absolute legend. I have just ended up with a grey arab - again maybe as bad a combination as a Chesnut TB mare (in some peep's eyes) - but he is a little star and I wouldn't change him for the world.

Mostly I don't mind very much at all about colouring and markings - as long as they have a good temprement.

I don't like bays (common and boring) and coloureds (gypsy horses).

The best horse I've ever owned was Fruitbat and he was bay, my current horse is Bloater she's coloured and she's great.

I've owned a cremello welsh X arab, she was great fun.

No colour would put me off, but I'm not keen on cremello's, palomino's, greys and coloured with too much white. I also don't really like plain bays or black mares. I really like roans, duns, tri-coloured and buckskins or anything with unusual mrkings.

I seem to have 2 horse colours that no one seems to like

Missy is a plain bay

and Tommy is a grey .

Both I think are stunning

No colour would put me off to be honest, Although saying that, I do like showing and well according to the showing world some colours/wall eyes etc just aren't right for certain classes that I would like to do .

All in all colour really doesn't matter to me .

I always swore that I would NEVER, EVER have a grey of any shade. Hah! In 10 years I had 7 in a row, 3 of them whiter than white - sometimes

All but 2 were brilliant at their jobs, and perversely I had a lot of satisfaction from turning a mud stained pony into something so white he looked like a washing powder ad. Shame, that with the hunter it only lasted as long as the first muddy field, but that goes with the territory.

I don't think any particular colour would put me off going to have a look, I like white legs and a a tidy blaze/stripe, but basically, if it does the job...

Not particularly keen on chestnuts, big white faces or blue eyes, odd, I have a horse that ticks all three boxes, she's the sweetest thing on four legs.

Definitely wouldn't look at a cremello, skewbald, piebald or grey. I love iron/dapple greys but hate it when they go fleabitten/white (and can't stand the hairs).

Give me a good solid bay or chestnut any day, but they mustn't have any white on legs. A white sock would put me off big time.

I was told (not sure if it was correct or not) that in the showing world judges like bays, chestnuts and greys. If you have a bay or a chestnut they shouldnt have dramtic white markings, a small star or sock is OK but not a white face for instance.

Personally I love all colours but stunning white greys always catch my attention and chestnuts with flaxen manes and tails

Anything that's two tone be it piebald or scewbald I just couldn't bring myself to own one...I wouldn't even go and look!

I would be put off a grey due to having had one PTS for melanomia's and I might be put off 4 white socks for mud fever/sun burn reasons. Though I would rule either of those out it would just be taken into consideration.

I would avoid Palominio's because I think they look like 'my little ponies' and would probably avoid roans as I think some of them look like they've been scalded.

Yeah I'm pretty muh a chestnut/bay lover through and through

how dull!

wouldnt paticulary want a grey or a coloured (after having both), as they are to hard to keep clean, althou the grey was better than the coloured, as he didnt have white legs.

Nice boring bay all the way for me!

This made me laugh! I have a palomino and she is exactly like a 'my little pony' in looks and attitude, she is also a complete blonde airhead!!!

I'm not keen on chestnuts but wouldnt not go and look at one, i fi thought it was suitable, also like them a bit more since i managed to breed one!

Blue eyes just freak me out....

I love a grey - had 2 of them at one point
grin.gif

Currently I have 1 grey and 1 dun, and OH has a black with white feathers.

I do like chestnuts, especially with flaxen manes.

In general, I'm not keen on coloureds, although that would put me in a minority I suppose...

It is purely personal choice but i wouldn't go for something with a wall eye or cremello as i just don't like them. I was never keen about chestnuts or mares and have one of that combination who is an absolute blinder.

Wouldnt have a grey, unless its steel grey. I tend to like solid colours with as little white as possible. My own is a bright bay with only a few white hairs making a tiny star. Biggest dislike is white faces, no matter how good the horse is I would not have it as I need to find my horse atractive.

I would'nt turn down any horse if it were an exceptional jumper at an affordable price! But otherwise I prefer solid colours and although I love greys, I would try to avoid one to avoid the washing. I worry about certain colours that they are bred for the colour rather than the conformation and performance, and I just don't like them anyway. So that would include coloureds, cremollos, appaloosas and also not keen on duns or roans (they don't shine) at all! I love palominos though, but I don't think I;ve ever seen a big successful palomino showjumper!

I have a thing for chestnuts, i just love the colour. I also have a grey who is now white. I have always loved greys. I think the only thing I really wouldn't fancy would be a coloured, they just don't float my boat. I don't think there is anything else I wouldn't consider if it was the right horse.
I like a bit of white markings ie blaze and socks, but would avoid the white and pink nose thing as both of mine need sun cream in the summer.
